Smart Toilet Tech Aims to Detect Health Issues Through Bowel Analysis
LAS VEGAS, NV – Kohler is introducing “Dekoda,” a smart toilet technology designed to passively monitor and analyze human waste for indicators of hydration levels, gut health, and the presence of blood. Unveiled recently, the system represents a novel approach to preventative healthcare, bringing diagnostic monitoring directly into the bathroom.
The device, paired with the Kohler Health app, aims to provide users with actionable insights into their well-being, potentially enabling earlier detection of health problems. The human body is comprised of up to 75% water, making hydration a key focus; Dekoda assesses hydration levels and sends alerts to encourage consistent fluid intake. Beyond hydration, the system analyzes stool frequency, consistency, and shape – going “beyond gut instinct” as Kohler describes it – to decode data related to digestive health and nutrient absorption.
Dekoda also features technology to detect the presence of blood in the toilet bowl, alerting users to subtle changes that might otherwise go unnoticed. Data collected by the toilet’s sensors is transmitted to the Kohler Health app after each use, providing personalized metrics and alerts. Kohler emphasizes privacy, incorporating features like fingerprint authentication on an optional remote control and encryption to protect user data.
The system requires a Kohler Health subscription to unlock full health tracking, analysis, and optimization features. The process begins with downloading the app and creating a user profile, followed by installing Dekoda in a standard toilet.
