Demián Bichir Reveals Quentin Tarantino‘s Three-Week Film Binge Led to ‘Hateful Eight’ Role,Links New Series to Edgar Allan Poe
Mexico City – Actor demián Bichir credits a deep-dive film marathon by director Quentin Tarantino as the unlikely catalyst for his role in The Hateful eight. Bichir detailed the story in a recent interview, revealing Tarantino approached him with a script after watching nearly all of Bichir’s previous work, including films in Spanish. The actor is currently promoting The Dentist, a new series he stars in, which he describes as a “gothic thriller with a feminist soul” deeply influenced by the works of Edgar Allan Poe.
Bichir recounted how Tarantino’s interest was initially sparked through recommendations from Robert Rodríguez, with whom Bichir collaborated on Machete Kills. Rodríguez repeatedly told Bichir he was “an actor for tarantino,” but Bichir playfully urged Rodríguez to make the introduction himself. the connection ultimately materialized through a dinner invitation from Diane Kruger,a friend of Tarantino’s and Bichir’s co-star on The Bridge. At the dinner, Tarantino promptly expressed familiarity with Bichir’s extensive filmography, even referencing roles in Spanish-language productions like Hidalgo and Sex, Modesty and Tears.
“The first thing he tells me is: ‘I’ve been in a Demián Bichir marathon for three weeks,'” Bichir recalled. Tarantino then offered him a script, bypassing a traditional audition. “If you like it, it’s yours,” Tarantino reportedly said, leading directly to Bichir’s part in The Hateful Eight.
Beyond his experience with Tarantino, Bichir emphasized the pervasive influence of edgar Allan Poe on The Dentist, describing it as a story “with soul, with symbols, with social criticism” that transcends a simple serial killer narrative. he intends to highlight this connection in all interviews promoting the series.
