Cuban Mariel Exile Faces Deportation After Criminal History

Cuban Mariel Refugee Detained,‌ faces ‍Deportation Amidst Heightened ICE Enforcement

ALLIGATOR, FL – ⁣November 11, 2025 – A Cuban man who arrived in the united States‌ during ‍the 1980 Mariel Boatlift is currently detained in Florida, facing deportation due⁣ to an extensive criminal history, according ‌to recent reports. The case highlights a ‌surge in deportations of Cuban nationals with criminal⁢ records ‌under the administration of Donald‌ Trump.

The individual, recently detained by ⁣Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), has prior charges including drug possession and aggravated assault with injury. His detention is⁢ part of a ‍broader effort‍ to “capture and expel immigrants from the country” undocumented, notably those with criminal backgrounds, a policy affirmed⁣ by a Supreme Court ruling.

The Mariel exodus, beginning in April 1980, saw over 125,000 Cubans travel to the U.S., seeking refuge from poverty and repression under Fidel Castro. However,⁣ the influx included not only those fleeing hardship but also individuals released from ⁤Cuban ‍prisons ‌and⁤ psychiatric institutions by the Castro‌ government, described as “undesirable” elements.

Currently, over 42,000 Cubans have‌ final deportation⁣ orders, according to the⁤ Department of ⁣Homeland Security (DHS). However, the⁢ Cuban government’s refusal to accept individuals with U.S. criminal⁢ records, or those who left the country before January 2017 immigration agreements, has led to the deportation of some Cubans to third nations – including South Sudan, the Kingdom of Eswatini, Rwanda, and‍ Mexico – sparking criticism ‌from human‍ rights organizations and‍ legal experts concerned about potential risks of ⁤torture or death.

At⁣ least four Cubans‍ with final deportation orders have already been sent to African countries.

Despite these complications, deportation flights to Cuba continue monthly, adhering to existing immigration agreements. ‌As of November 6, 2025,⁣ a total of 1,231 Cuban migrants have been deported to Cuba by air since January ⁣23, 2025,‌ including 232 individuals returned to the island on November 6th in the⁤ tenth air ‌operation since Trump took office.

**Angel Fernandez: Cuban Pitcher Joins MLB, Reflecting Baseball Exodus**

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor November 10, 2025
written by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

promising Cuban Pitcher Ángel Fernández Seeks Opportunities in MLB

The ongoing departure of talented baseball players from Cuba continues with the recent move ‌of right-handed pitcher Ángel Fernández to the Dominican Republic. The 17-year-old has signed a contract with an association within Major League baseball ⁤(MLB), seeking to begin his professional career.

Fernández, hailing from Santa Clara, Villa ⁣Clara, has quickly established himself⁢ as ‍one of Cuba’s brightest young pitching ‍prospects. Standing 6 feet 3 inches tall, he consistently throws around 90 miles per hour, a notable velocity for his age that has attracted‌ attention from international scouts.

His performance⁢ in ⁤national championships at the U-15 and U-18 levels demonstrates his potential. Fernández boasts a record of 10 wins and 120 strikeouts across 102 innings pitched. he played a crucial role in Villa Clara’s victory at the 2024 U-18 National Championship, ⁤throwing 17 innings with 22 strikeouts and allowing only one run.

According to reports from journalist Francys Romero, shared on ⁣social media, Fernández⁣ will be eligible to sign a‍ professional contract ⁣during the ⁣2024-2025 international⁤ period and is expected to join a united States minor league system.

Fernández’s departure‌ highlights a ⁣larger trend of Cuban baseball players leaving the island in search of better opportunities and a more stable future. This exodus⁢ is⁣ impacting the quality of⁣ competition within Cuba’s⁤ Serie Nacional and contributing to the nation’s declining performance in‌ international baseball events. Despite attempts by the‍ Cuban⁢ government to address the situation⁤ through local tournaments and foreign league agreements, the‍ loss of top talent continues,‍ driven by limited growth opportunities and a lack of economic stability within the Cuban sports system.

Fernández’s story⁢ exemplifies the situation facing manny young Cuban baseball players: individuals honed under challenging ‌conditions‍ who seek the freedom and platform ‍to compete at the highest levels of the⁤ sport. With his move, Cuba⁣ loses ‍another promising athlete.

Title: Zohran Mamdani’s New York Victory Sparks Debate and Comparisons Across the Atlantic

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor November 9, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

PARIS – The victory of Zohran Mamdani in the New York City Council⁣ race is reverberating across the Atlantic, but rather than unifying the French left, it’s exacerbating existing divisions as factions attempt to claim the win as ⁣validation for their own strategies. The debate centers on whether mamdani’s success offers a blueprint for a unified left-wing challenge in France, particularly ahead of upcoming elections.

François ruffin, writing⁣ for HuffPost, highlighted the potential for a⁤ primary election to yield a victorious candidate despite a lack of consensus.Though, the victory has sparked internal clashes, exemplified by an exchange between Sophia Chikirou and Emmanuel Grégoire regarding the Paris mayoral race. Chikirou, responding to Grégoire, asserted, “if you support Zohran Mamdani in New York, you must support ‍La France insoumise in Paris,” framing Mamdani’s win as a mandate for a similar progressive agenda.‍

chikirou further connected mamdani’s success to⁢ specific policy positions: “What makes Zohran’s victory is his ‍program and his positions: attacking the rich, speculation, making public transport‍ free, supporting Palestine, raising the voice of workers against ⁢gentrification.” She directly challenged Grégoire, stating, “This is the ‍opposite of what you’ve been doing for years. You want this program in Paris: vote for La France insoumise!“

The article notes a perceived contrast ⁢in behavior between ‌Mamdani and typical French left-wing politicians, citing Mamdani’s apology ⁣following controversial ⁣statements regarding the NYPD, as reported by Politico on October 15, 2025.

Reactions weren’t limited to the Paris mayoral race.LFI MP Gabrielle cathala criticized Socialist Party leaders⁤ for congratulating Mamdani, tweeting⁢ that he embodies ”a clear anti-racist line, who has been denouncing the genocide in Gaza for months, and ⁤who⁣ has defended ⁤all the arrested pro-Palestinian activists. Which is everything the PS has never done.”

Rima Hassan, a Member of the European‍ Parliament, echoed this⁣ sentiment, stating that some on the left were celebrating Mamdani’s victory without genuinely embracing the “class struggle” ‌or “anti-racist struggle.” Nadège Abomangoli criticized the conduct of those who contested the primary despite their defeat, deeming the primary process ‍itself “rotten.”

The ‌analysis concludes that while Mamdani’s win offers a ‍morale boost, its applicability to the French political landscape remains ⁢uncertain⁢ due to essential differences in party culture and⁤ campaigning styles.⁢ The election, the article suggests,is being interpreted through the lens of individual political agendas, with the hope that victories are achievable both in France‍ and abroad.
