Instagram Launches ‘Watch history’โข forโข Reels, Addressing โUser Demand
MENLO PARK, CA – September 6, 2024 โข – Instagram users can now easily revisit Reels they’ve previously viewed thanks to a newly launched “Watch History“โ feature. the addition, announced Fridayโ by Instagram headโ Adam Mosseri, directly โresponds to widespread userโข requests for a way to recover previously enjoyed content.
Prior to this update, Instagramโ users often resorted to โcumbersome workarounds -โ like downloading their account data and manually searching through it – to find Reels โthey’d lost track of.”Have you ever tried to get back to a reel that you’d seen on Instagram and you just can’t find โit?” Mosseri asked inโ a video announcement posted to Instagram. “Well, there is a new feature that should help.”
The ‘Watch History’ is accessible through ‘profile,’ then ‘Settings,’ and finally ‘Your Activity.’ It โallows usersโ to view every Reel they’ve watched, sorted by date, the pastโฃ week orโค month,โค or a specific date range.โค Users also have the option โto โคremove Reelsโค from their history.
Instagram’s implementation offers greater โsorting versatility than tiktok’sโค comparable โfeature, allowing for chronological, reverse chronological, or author-based association. TikTok introduced its ‘Watch โHistory’โค feature several years ago, in 2022.
The launch of ‘Watch History’ continues Meta’s pattern of adopting features popularized by TikTok for Instagram Reels. Recent additions include the ability for creators to link multiple Reels in a series, announced August 21, 2024, and testing of Picture-in-Picture viewing forโ Reels,โ launched September 2,โค 2024.
