by Priya Shah – Business Editor October 17, 2025
written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

Jakarta – Despite a market downturn today, Friday, October 17, 2025, IndonesiaS Minister of ‍Finance, Purba Yudhi Sadewa, expressed strong confidence in the nation’s economic trajectory, predicting the Composite Stock⁤ Price Index (IHSG) could reach⁤ 9,000 by year-end.The IHSG closed⁣ at 7,915,down 20.91 points (2.57%) today.

Sadewa attributed his optimistic outlook ‌to ongoing government efforts to strengthen the Indonesian economy’s foundations, assuring investors there is no cause for ‍concern. He ⁢believes that as various economic‌ programs are implemented, Indonesia‘s economic profile will improve significantly. ⁣”By the end of the year, getting 9,000 is not ‍too tough. Once they know that the programme I am running is really being implemented correctly, the foundation of the economy will change,” he stated at the ministry of Public Works Office ‍in Jakarta.

Looking further ahead, Sadewa projected an even more substantial rise,⁣ forecasting the IHSG‌ to reach⁢ 35,000 by‌ 2035, ‍contingent on ⁢the ⁢continued success of ⁢current ‍programs. “As I said earlier, if I can maintain this, really expand it to 10⁤ years, 8 years from now, 2030, it will⁤ be different.‍ It could‌ be 4 times, 5⁤ times from now, ⁣from 7 thousand. So people say⁢ it’s above 35,000 or around there. But⁤ we’ll see, ⁤if I don’t get fired, okay,”‍ he added.

The Minister also viewed‍ the current decline in the JCI as⁣ a favorable possibility for investors. “I think like ⁤this, what you see is what the economic foundation will be like in the ⁢future. We ‌are⁤ seriously repairing the foundation. This will change the economic profile in the future. ⁣If investors know, there’s no need ‌to ‌be afraid. Good time to buy,” Sadewa said.

Today’s trading saw a volume of 39.95 billion shares‌ traded, valued ⁢at IDR 27,964 trillion, across 2,676,483 transactions. Of the shares ⁤traded, 116 strengthened, 598 weakened, and 94 remained stagnant. The⁢ JCI opened at 8,132,reaching a⁢ high of 8,140 and a low of 7,854 during the session.

by Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor October 17, 2025
written by Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor

Indonesia Sees Rise in Flu and COVID-19 Cases as Rainy Season Begins

Jakarta,Indonesia – Indonesia is experiencing an increase in influenza ‌and similar illnesses, including COVID-19,coinciding with the transition to the rainy season, the Ministry of Health ⁣reported. Health facilities across the ⁣country have reported a rise in cases over the last few‍ weeks,⁢ mirroring a trend observed in neighboring Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.

The⁢ increase is largely attributed to the spread of type A influenza viruses. Health officials are urging the public, especially ⁤travelers and high-risk groups – including health workers, the elderly, ‍pregnant women, and individuals⁣ with chronic‍ diseases – to get vaccinated annually and practice preventative measures. This‍ surge ⁢underscores the ⁤ongoing threat of respiratory illnesses in Indonesia, a tropical country where influenza viruses circulate year-round, with activity peaking during seasonal changes and ‍periods of poor air quality.

According to Ministry of Health spokesperson, Aji, “We recommend that people, especially those in the high-risk groups, get⁢ the ⁢influenza vaccine once a year, especially ⁢for travelers and high-risk groups such as health workers, the elderly, pregnant women and individuals with chronic ‌diseases.”

The Early Alert and Response⁢ System (SKDR) data confirms the upward trend in cases of influenza,ILI (Influenza-Like Illness),ARI (Acute Respiratory Infection),and COVID-19. The World Health⁣ Institution’s⁤ FluNet data also indicates similar increases in neighboring countries due to the prevalence of type A influenza viruses.

Aji emphasized that while influenza viruses circulate throughout the year in Indonesia, activity intensifies during the transition to the rainy season and when ⁤air quality deteriorates⁢ in major cities. He stated,”But activity increases at‌ certain ‍times. Currently there is ‍a transition to the rainy season and the air quality is poor in several cities in Indonesia.”

Indonesia Clove Farm Radiation: Shrimp & Spice Contamination Investigation

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor October 14, 2025

Indonesia Finds Radiation at Clove Farm Amid Cesium-137 Contamination Investigation

Jakarta, Indonesia – October 17, 2023 – Indonesian authorities have⁤ detected traces of radioactivity at a clove farm in Lampung, Sumatra,⁤ as part of an investigation triggered by the discovery of Cesium-137 contamination in shrimp and spices ⁤exported to the united states. The finding follows earlier⁤ detections of the radioactive isotope in ‌at‍ least 22 facilities at⁤ the Cikande industrial estate, approximately 35 miles‍ west of Jakarta, and in a sample of frozen shrimp from Indonesia in August.

The Indonesian government launched a probe, dispatching ⁤inspection teams to processing facilities‌ and farms on Java‍ and Sumatra islands. Task force spokesperson Bara Hasibuan told AFP on Tuesday that while⁣ radioactivity was⁤ only found at the clove farm, the government has temporarily‍ banned the farm from selling its cloves pending ⁢further‌ investigation.

“Until there is a conclusive finding, we requested that the ‌cloves from the farm are ⁢not being sold,” ⁢Bara said, adding ⁢that Indonesia’s Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (Bapeten) is currently ⁣testing samples from the farm to determine the source of the contamination. “we must determine the source, how⁣ come the cloves there are contaminated.”

The initial ⁢contamination concerns‍ arose⁢ after the ⁤U.S. Food and⁢ Drug Management (FDA) issued a recall in August for shrimp ⁢exported by ⁢PT bahari Makmur Sejati after Cesium-137 was ⁣detected. The ‍FDA has ⁣since banned ⁢products from two Indonesian ‍companies ⁢until they can⁣ demonstrate ⁢resolution of the contamination issues.

Effective late October,‍ the FDA will ⁢require import certification for shrimp and spices from‍ certain regions⁢ of Indonesia due to the risk of Cesium-137 contamination.the agency stated this is the first ⁤time it has utilized this authority to‍ address ongoing food safety concerns while maintaining trade for safe products.

The FDA has also suspended imports of⁣ scrap iron and steel, believed⁤ to be ‍the source of the ‌contamination, until a monitoring system for radioactive materials is “fully strengthened,” according to environment ⁢minister ⁤Hanif Faisol Nurofiq in ⁤an Instagram post.

Cesium-137,⁣ created through nuclear reactions, has various industrial, medical, and research applications. The FDA‍ notes that long-term exposure to even low doses of Cesium-137 is linked to‌ an increased risk of cancer.

Jakarta to Ban Sale of Dog and Cat Meat – Gazeta.Ru

Jakarta Governor ‌Vows to Ban Dog and Cat Meat Sales

jakarta, Indonesia – Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has announced plans to issue a regulation prohibiting⁢ the sale ⁢of dog and⁢ cat meat for human consumption,⁤ according to Indonesian news agency⁤ Between. The move⁤ comes as authorities⁤ seek⁤ to address public ‌health concerns and animal welfare issues within the capital‌ city.

The impending ban is part of a ⁤broader ⁤initiative by the ‍Indonesian Cabinet of Ministers to combat the spread of rabies in Jakarta. While a governor’s resolution is ‍the⁢ immediate step,Wibowo indicated that further legislative action may ‌be pursued if needed ‍to⁣ fully implement⁢ the prohibition. This development builds on recent efforts to disrupt the trade of animals⁢ for slaughter, ⁤and reflects growing pressure from ⁣animal rights organizations and public health officials.

In January 2024, Indonesian police intervened to rescue 226 dogs being ⁣transported in a truck destined⁤ for slaughter, working alongside animal welfare‌ charities to secure the animals’ safety.Reports detailed the dogs being confined in harsh conditions,‌ chained and wiht their legs bound.

The governor’s announcement signals ⁤a potential shift in cultural practices, as dog and cat meat consumption, though declining, persists in certain ⁢regions of Indonesia. The regulation ‍aims to protect ‍both animal welfare and public health,‌ aligning Jakarta with a growing global trend toward ending⁣ the trade in these animals for food.
