IEEE-HKN marks 15 Years Since Landmark Merger,Amplifying Studentโข Leadershipโ & Technical Excellence
ANN ARBOR,Mich. – Fifteen years after uniting with IEEE, the Honor Society forโฃ Electrical and Computer Engineering – now known as โคIEEE-HKN – isโ celebrating โa milestone markedโข by expanded student outreach, โincreased affordability, and a strengthened commitment to โfostering the next generation of technology leaders. The merger, finalized in 2009, has enabled IEEE-HKN to broaden itsโข impact while remaining dedicated to its core valuesโ of scholarship, character,โ and attitude.
The integration โallowed IEEE-HKN to leverage the resources of the larger IEEEโ institution, directly benefiting students through initiatives like the annual Student Leadership โConference. This year’s conference, scheduled for November 7-9 at the University of Michigan in Ann โArbor, is โฃdesignedโค to be more โaccessible to students โคandโ provides a platform forโข IEEE-HKN members toโ share โpractical technical and career insights.
“In โฃthe spirit of One IEEE, an important feature of all IEEE-HKN conferences is that sponsoring societies have representatives on hand to encourage โstudents to find their technicalโ home,” explained Nancy Ostin, director of IEEE-HKN.
Beyond theโ Student Leadership Conference, IEEE-HKN hosts โtwo virtual conferencesโค annually:โข Pathways to Industry and TechX, both offered at a discounted rate toโ all IEEE members. Theโค society โฃhas also been โactively celebrating the merger at recent IEEE eventsโข including SouthEastCon, joint meetingsโค of IEEE Regions 1 and 2,โ the IEEE Life Membersโ Evolution Conference, and IEEE CompSac.
IEEE-HKN is commemorating theโ 15th anniversary with a feature in the October issue of its magazine, The Bridge, and a fundraising campaign in partnership with the IEEE Foundation. The campaign aims to โsecure financial support for the honor society’s ongoing initiatives.
Reflecting on the past 15 years, ostin emphasized theโฃ alignment between IEEE-HKN’s values and IEEE’sโค strategic goals. “As IEEE’s โคhonor society, HKN’s coreโ valuesโฆalign โคwith IEEE’s strategic goals by โinspiringโ intellectual curiosity and knowledge sharing, โคfostering lifelong engagement, and empowering โtechnology leaders,” she saeid. “Being an HKN member is a lifelong designation, and we are proudโข that โฃour members โare leaders in industry, โขacademia, and โgovernment, always looking forโ ways to give back toโ our current andโ future students.”
