Huawei’s Pura 70 smartphone, currently priced around $600, is gaining traction in key markets including Peru and Mexico, signaling a resurgence for the Chinese tech giant despite past sanctions. The device, launched in 2026, features a 6.6-inch OLED LTPO display with a 120Hz refresh rate and Kunlun Glass protection, alongside an IP68 water resistance rating.
The Pura 70 is powered by Huawei’s Kirin 90000S1 processor, coupled with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. While the processor lags behind Qualcomm and MediaTek’s top-tier offerings, it provides sufficient performance for demanding applications and gaming, according to early reviews. The phone’s camera system includes a 50MP main lens with a variable aperture ranging from f/1.4 to f/4.0, a 13MP ultrawide lens, and a 12MP telephoto lens.
The device boasts a 4900mAh battery with 66W wired fast charging, 50W wireless charging, and 7.5W reverse wireless charging – all included in the box. It runs EMUI 14.2, based on Android 12, and is guaranteed four years of operating system and security updates. Access to Google services, previously a limitation for Huawei devices, is now facilitated through applications like MicroG and Petal Search.
Huawei’s recovery comes after facing significant challenges following sanctions imposed during the Trump administration. Despite these obstacles, the company has managed to maintain a presence in international markets and is now regaining momentum, particularly with the Pura 70. According to a January 2026 report from IDC, the global smartphone market experienced modest growth in 2025, driven by demand for premium devices and foldables. While Apple saw growth in shipments, Huawei and Vivo experienced declines. However, Xiaomi and Oppo increased their market share.
The broader market context shows Apple leading global smartphone shipments for the third consecutive year, with Samsung close behind. In China, Huawei, Apple, and Vivo collectively shipped 139 million units, with Apple being the only one of the three to record year-on-year growth, shipping 46.2 million units. China’s overall smartphone shipments totaled approximately 285 million units for the full year, a slight decrease of 0.6% compared to 2024. The global market totaled 1.26 billion units, a 1.9% increase.
