Former Seattle Storm head coach Noelle Quinn will lead the inaugural season of Breeze BC, one of two expansion teams joining Unrivaled for its second season in January, the league announced Thursday.
Quinn, who coached the Storm for five seasons from 2021-2025, takes the helm of Breeze BC after her contract with Seattle was not renewed in September following consecutive first-round playoff exits, according to Unrivaled officials.
“We’re thrilled to add such exceptional talent to our head coaching roster in our second season, elevating the strong foundation established by our inaugural coaching staffs across Unrivaled,” said Clare Duwelius, Unrivaled’s general manager, in a statement.
The addition of Quinn and Rena Wakama, tapped to coach the newly formed Hive BC, brings the total number of Unrivaled teams to eight, expanding from the league’s initial six clubs. Wakama currently serves as the head coach of the Nigerian Women’s National Team and an assistant coach for the Chicago Sky.
Alongside the new appointments, four of the league’s original six head coaches will return for the 2026 season. Andrew Wade will continue to lead Laces BC, DJ Sackmann will coach Lunar Owls BC, Zach O’Brien will remain at the helm of Mist BC, and Teresa Weatherspoon will once again guide Vinyl BC. Weatherspoon’s Vinyl BC narrowly missed the championship title in the league’s inaugural season, falling to Rose BC in March.
Rounding out the coaching roster are Roneeka Hodges, who will coach Phantom BC, and Nola Henry, who will lead Rose BC. Unrivaled officials highlighted that the league’s coaching staff now includes five Black women, a move they characterized as a deliberate statement.
The league also recently announced the addition of three players to its roster: Dominique Malonga, Rebecca Allen, and Aari McDonald. McDonald’s inclusion comes despite a foot injury sustained during the regular season.
