Hamas Arms Deal: Suspect Apprehended on Train to Flensburg
Flensburg, Germany – German authorities arrested Mahmoud Z., a Lebanon-born man, Thursday morning aboard a train arriving from Denmark in Flensburg. the arrest is linked to an investigation into the procurement of weapons allegedly intended for use by Hamas.
Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and Federal Police officers executed the arrest as Z. entered Germany. Investigators believe Z. served as an intermediary in a weapons transaction, sourcing firearms and ammunition ultimately destined for potential attacks targeting Israeli or Jewish institutions in Germany and across Europe. The arrest marks the third suspect taken into custody in connection with the unfolding case, raising concerns about the potential for planned violence.
According to investigators, Z. allegedly purchased a Sturmgever, eight pistols, and over 600 rounds of ammunition in Hessen in August. he then transported the weapons to Berlin, where he handed them off to Wael F. M., who was arrested on october 1st.Both transactions are connected to Borhan El-K., who was recently arrested and is also implicated in the arms deal.
Authorities searched Z.’s apartment in Oberhausen, North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) in October, a General Public Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson confirmed. Z.’s nationality remains unconfirmed, though he is a resident of germany.
Mahmoud Z. is being transferred to Karlsruhe, where he is scheduled to appear before an investigating judge at the Federal Court of Justice on Friday, November 14th. The judge will determine whether to issue an arrest warrant and order pre-trial detention. The investigation is ongoing.
