Toyota and Lexus Tease Flagship Supercar
GT Prototype/LFR Expected to Debut in 2025 or 2026
Enthusiasts got an exciting sneak peek at the upcoming flagship supercar from Toyota and Lexus at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The GT Prototype, possibly debuting as the Lexus LFR, hints at a potent blend of performance and luxury.
Interior Design Revealed
A detailed look inside the prototype’s cabin reveals a motorsport-inspired design. It incorporates carbon-fiber racing-style bucket seats and a blend of red leather and Alcantara upholstery. Aluminum accents contribute to the modern, purposeful ambiance.
A sizable infotainment screen is prominently featured, along with physical switches that highlight driver engagement alongside advanced technology.
Project in Development for Years
According to Toyota Gazoo Racing drivers, this supercar has been under development for more than four years. Unlike many manufacturers who keep prototypes tightly under wraps, Toyota and Lexus opted to showcase both road and race versions at Goodwood.
The GR GT3 Concept first previewed both vehicles in 2022. They are expected to replace the Lexus RC F GT3 in racing, also introducing a new road-going model that will be positioned above the Lexus LC500.
Potential Engine and Performance Specs
While specific technical details remain unconfirmed by Toyota and Lexus, indications suggest that both models will feature a powerful V8 engine. It’s believed that this V8 will be enhanced with twin turbochargers and an electric motor, potentially resulting in a combined output exceeding 800 horsepower.
For context, the Lexus LFA’s naturally aspirated V10 generated 553 hp back in 2012. Today, many supercars easily exceed 600 hp, reflecting advancements in performance capabilities since then (MotorTrend 2024).
Design Highlights
Visually, the prototypes share features such as an elongated bonnet and a broad front grille. The road-going version has four tailpipes and a subtle lip spoiler, while the GT3-spec racer sports a more aggressive aerodynamic package, complete with a large rear wing.
Upon its release, this supercar is expected to compete with high-performance models like the Aston Martin Vantage and Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S, and provide a significant performance upgrade over the Lexus LC500.
Launch Timeframe
Currently known as the ‘Toyota GT Prototype’ and ‘LFR,’ the final branding is still pending confirmation. The global unveiling is anticipated in late 2025 or sometime in 2026.
