Facing Global Anxiety: Journalist Salomé Saqué Advocates Action & Connection in New Podcast
PARIS – In a world grappling with climate disruption, political polarization, and widespread inequality, finding the courage to act – rather than succumb to despair – is a critical challenge. Journalist and author Salomé Saqué,known for her books “Resist” and “Be young and shut up,” tackles this very question in a new podcast series,”Inspire,” launched today by Le Point J.
The podcast, titled ”Salomé saqué: How to give yourself courage?”, explores practical methods for maintaining hope and fostering proactive engagement. Saqué, who contributes to the media outlet Blast, emphasizes the importance of individual agency within larger systemic issues.
“This is perhaps the first task, to manage to maintain a form of optimism despite everything,” Saqué explains. “It is indeed not always easy…but there are moments when we can, where we must find joy, hope, reasons to cope. Not waiting for the world to be completely repaired so that you can be well, it is indeed a condition for being able to act on your own scale.”
Saqué’s approach centers on building strong networks of friendship, participating in collective action across diverse fields, and drawing inspiration from movements like “Women, Life, Freedom” in Iran. She stresses that impactful change doesn’t require grand gestures, but rather consistent effort within one’s own sphere of influence.
“taking action is the best remedy for anxiety,” Saqué states. “I would be really depressed if I didn’t do this job and if I didn’t feel like I was doing something a little bit useful. I know very well that I’m not revolutionizing anything, but no one does everything alone. We all have our areas of expertise, our modes of action and our territories.”
The podcast also delves into broader questions of intergenerational collaboration, the role of utopian thinking, and navigating moments of disillusionment.
“Everything but inaction,” Saqué succinctly summarizes her philosophy.
