written by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor

Singaporeans looking to upgrade to Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone can now do so with a significant discount, bundled with a subscription to leading local news publications. SPH Media is offering a deal on the novel Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra (512GB) in Cobalt Violet or Classic Black, saving customers up to S$690 when paired with a subscription to either The Straits Times or The Business Times.

The offer, announced on February 27, 2026, requires a 24-month contract with one of four subscription plans. Customers pay a down payment of S$598 for the Galaxy S26 Ultra and then monthly fees dependent on their chosen news package. Options include The Straits Times ‘All Digital’ at S$64.90 per month, The Straits Times ‘All Digital’ plus Print at S$64.90 per month, The Business Times ‘All Digital’ at S$67.90 per month, and The Business Times ‘All Digital’ plus Print at S$67.90 per month.

According to calculations provided by HardwareZone, the total cost of the phone and a two-year subscription to The Business Times can be as low as S$2,227.60, while a similar bundle with The Straits Times costs S$2,155.60. Without the promotion, purchasing the phone and a two-year subscription separately would cost between S$2,845.60 and S$2,917.60, representing a savings of S$690.

The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, unveiled as part of the Galaxy S26 series, features a new privacy screen that limits viewing angles, and an improved camera system with a built-in gimbal for enhanced video stabilization. The device also boasts faster charging capabilities. The S26 line-up, which includes the S26 and S26+, offers storage options ranging from 256GB to 1TB, with prices starting at S$1,438, according to The Straits Times. The 512GB version of the S26 Ultra is priced at S$2,128 when purchased independently.

SPH Media’s offer is currently exclusive to the 512GB version of the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The ‘All Digital+Print’ subscription option includes a monthly delivery fee, varying between S$3 and S$5 depending on the customer’s residential type, but the subscription cost itself remains consistent with the ‘All Digital’ option.

Interested customers can find more information and sign up for the offer at sph.sg/samsung-hwz.

Galaxy S26 Ultra: S Pen Insertion – One Way Only?

by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor February 23, 2026
written by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor

A leaked retail unit of Samsung’s forthcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra reveals a potential change to the smartphone’s S Pen functionality: a single, correct insertion method. Content creator Sahil Karoul, who obtained the device prior to its official launch, reported that the stylus must be inserted with the button facing upward to align with the phone’s curved design.

According to Karoul’s findings, attempting to insert the S Pen with the button facing downward causes the stylus to protrude from the device, due to a mismatch between the stylus’ curvature and the phone’s edge.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra and previous iterations in the series, allow for flexible S Pen insertion, accommodating the stylus with the button facing either up or down without issue. This change in design with the S26 Ultra suggests a refinement in the phone’s overall form factor, potentially prioritizing a flush profile.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics is reportedly developing a new manufacturing process for camera lenses intended to slim the camera module of the S26 Ultra, according to giga.de. This innovation involves printing a matte coating directly onto the lenses, eliminating the need for space-consuming anti-reflective films. The thinner camera module could contribute to a more streamlined device, potentially influencing the S Pen’s insertion mechanism.

GSMarena.com data indicates the Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to be announced on February 25, 2026, following the S25 Ultra’s release on February 3, 2025. The S26 Ultra is expected to maintain the same IP68 water resistance and Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X display technology as its predecessor.

The potential limitation in S Pen insertion comes as Samsung faces increased competition in the smartphone market, with its Galaxy S25 Ultra recently falling from the top five in one industry ranking, according to chip.de. The Galaxy S26 Ultra will need to demonstrate significant improvements to regain its position.
