Colapinto Battles Cramp, Brief โDecompensationโ in Monza GP Finish
Monza, Italy – Argentine Formula 1 โฃdriver Franco Colapinto finished โ17th inโข Sunday’s Italian โฃGrand Prixโค at the Monza Circuit, but the race wasโค physically taxing, culminating in a cramp โคand brief period ofโค recovery after crossing the finish line.
During the race, Colapinto communicated directly to his Alpine team, led by Flavio briatore, stating, โ”I can’t, it’s giving me a โcramp.” The โข20-year-oldโฃ Pilarense โstartedโ the race in โ17th position, ahead of teammate โขPierre Gasly, but fell to last (19th) following theโค retirements of โคNicoโ Hรผlkenberg (Sauber) and Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin).
Despite attempts to advance, Colapinto was unable to overtake โGasly,โค ultimately finishing where heโฃ started in 17th, after being โขpassed by Lanceโฃ Stroll (Aston Martin). The young Alpine โขdriver suffered the cramp during the 53-lap race, compounded by the limitations of the Renault engine’s performance.
After completing the Grand Prix, Colapinto experienced shortness of โคbreath and required several minutes to recover in the Alpine pit box before speaking withโค the press, due to a brief decompensation resulting from theโค physical demands of the circuit.
“The race was very long and very hard for us. I stayedโข with a little anger,” Colapinto told reporters. He also expressed feeling “very alone” throughout the race, referencing a perceived lack โof โฃstrategic support from โคthe team and an order to allow Gasly to โpass him for 17th position. “I couldn’t do anything, aโ shame. I felt very alone.”
