New Regulations Setโค Timeline for Fertilizer plans,Record-Keeping in Spain
Madrid – New national regulations outline a phased implementation schedule forโ mandatory โคfertilizer subscriber plans and technical advice โfor Spanish farms, despite concerns โraised by agricultural association ASAJA regarding requested improvements. The changes, โrecently published at the national level, establish specific dates for compliance based on irrigation practices and vulnerability to nitrate pollution.
Key provisions include a mandatory โsubscriber plan for farms utilizingโ irrigation with crops sown or plantedโฃ between March 1st and June 30th, โขeffective January 1st, 2026. All other farms will be required toโฃ have a โขsubscriber plan โin place by September 1st, 2026.
Technical advice on โคfertilization willโ follow, becomingโ mandatory one year after the respectiveโข subscriber plan โคdates for farms in areas vulnerable to nitrate pollutionโ – January 1st,2027,for irrigated farms and September 1st,2027,for others. Farms outsideโ these vulnerableโค areas will have โคan additional year to comply, with mandatory advice required by Januaryโค 1st,โ 2028, and September 1st, 2028, respectively.
moreover, all fertilization tasks must be recordedโ in an exploitation notebook (either โpaper or digital) starting January 1st, 2026, withโ annotations completed within one month of application.โฃ Exceptions apply to small farmsโ and those exclusively dedicated to grazing without fertilizer application, asโ outlined in RD 1054/22.
The regulationsโ also clarify requirements โrelated to manure application and the โฃcalculation of farmโ area concerning communal โคpastures.โฃ
Regional implementation detailsโข and new formatsโ for fertilization sheets within the exploitation notebook are expected to be released shortly.
