Nigeria Launches โคNational Digital โคGovernance Platform, Ushering in Era of Paperlessโ Efficiency
ABUJA – in a landmark move poised to revolutionize public service,โ the Nigerian Federal Government has initiated the nationwide rollout of its paperless governance program. Select Ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) are now operating on the 1Government Cloud (1Gov) – a sovereign digital platform developed by Galaxy Backbone Limited โ(GBB).
The initial phase includes โcritical institutions such as the Federalโฃ Ministry of Communications, Innovation and โDigital Economy, the Ministry of Solid Minerals, the Ministry of Steelโ Progress, โฃthe Ministry of โฃForeign Affairs, โthe Federal Ministry of Justice, the Federal โAirports โAuthority of Nigeria, and the Federal Ministry of Intergovernmental Affairs. this integrationโ marks a important step towards establishing a secure,โ digitally-driven public sector.
according to Wumi Oghoetuoma, Programme Director of โฃ1Government Cloud, the platform is designed to fundamentally modernize government operations. “this initiative willโ dismantle long-standing bureaucratic hurdles by streamlining approval processes and enhancing dialog between agencies,” Oghoetuoma explained. “The reduction in costs associated with conventional paper-based systems – printing, storage, and distribution – will be ample, while together bolstering transparency andโ accountability โin service delivery.”
The 1Gov platform prioritizes data security through robust encrypted storage, enabling faster and more informed decision-making. Oghoetuoma emphasized โขthe collaborative spirit driving the project, stating, “With MDAs aligned under aโข shared vision of improved โserviceโฃ delivery โข- a core tenet of the Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda – Nigeria โคis building the foundation for a truly โseamless digital government โฃecosystem.”
Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju,Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, hailed theโ rollout as a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s digital transformation. “1Gov signifies Nigeria’s entry โฃinto a new โera of governance – โcharacterizedโ by rapid decision-making, fortified document security, and, ultimately,โข enhanced services for our citizens. this is about creating a governmentโ that isโ clever, responsive, and competitive onโ the global stage.”
The platform’sโข benefits extend โto Nigeria’s international relations. A seniorโฃ official within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, speaking on condition of anonymity, highlightedโค the platform’s importance โขfor diplomatic engagements. โค”Adopting a โคsovereign system strengthens our diplomaticโ communications and allows for aโข more agile โresponse toโค international developments.”
A Suite of Digital Tools for Modern Governance
The 1Government Cloud offersโ aโ thorough suite of sovereign digital tools, including:
GovDrive: Secure,โ encrypted file management.
GovMail: Secure inter-agency correspondence.
gove-Sign: Legally โrecognized โคelectronic approvals.
GovConference: Encrypted โขvirtual meetings.
*โ GovAssetโข Management & GovCollaboration: Tools designed to enhance accountability and teamwork.
The initiative aligns with the Head of the Civil Service of theโ Federation’s directive to โachieve โa fully paperless civil service byโข December 2025. A phased โimplementation, prioritizing staff training and infrastructure development, is currently underway. โ
The Federal โGovernment believes the 1Government Cloud will not only streamline โฃinternal processes but also โขposition Nigeria โคas a leader in secure, digitally-drivenโ governance, joining aโข growing number of nations embracing sovereign cloudโฃ solutions to protect public sector operations.
