Han Dong-hoon Challenges Choโฃ Kuk to Debate Over Daejang-dong Case, Accuses Him of Avoiding Accountability
SEOUL, August 15 – Former People Power Party CEO Han Dong-hoon renewed โฃhis โฃcall for โคa public debate withโ former Cho โKuk Reform Party Emergency Response Committee Chairman Cho Kuk regarding the abandonment of appeals inโ the ‘Daejang-dong incident,’ accusing Cho Kuk of attempting toโข evadeโ scrutinyโ following hisโ criticism of a potential Liberation Day pardon.
Han Dong-hoon alleges Cho Kuk initiated the โขcurrent โฃdispute by questioning the handling of funds in the Daejang-dong case and suggesting victims pursue civil lawsuits. He claims โhis debate proposalโข stemmed directly from Cho Kuk’s initial comments. In a โฃfacebook post at approximately 7:26 p.m. on August 15th,Han Dong-hoon stated,”Mr. โCho โขKuk seems to haveโ forgotten, but I didn’tโ suddenly ask you to discuss itโฆmy debate proposal started because of โคnonsense.”
The former โPeople Power Party CEO further asserted that Choโ Kuk is potentially aligning himself with figures linked to President Lee Jae-myung in exchange for a “preferential pardon,” and warned that refusing the debate would invalidate any gains made through such support. “Mr. Cho โฃKuk might potentiallyโ be actively siding with the Daejangdong gangโฆto pay for the food he received from President Lee Jae-myung through a preferential pardonโฆbut if he runs away like this, all the money he has earned soโ far โขwill be lost,” Han wrote.
This exchange follows Han Dong-hoon’s earlier proposal on โฃAugust 12th and a subsequent offer made duringโฃ Cho kuk’s appearance on the Sampro TV โคYouTube channel, where Han suggested an โขopen discussion during the broadcast. Cho Kukโ responded indirectly at approximately 4:15 โคp.m. on August 15th, stating on Facebook, “I have no intentionโ of responding to Mr. Han โฃDong-hoon’s whining,” and declaring he would not engage.
Han Dong-hoon reiterated his willingness to debate โฃany topic chosen by Choโฃ Kuk, adding a pointed request: “Also, please talk without crying.” The Daejang-dong incident centers onโ allegations of corruption and irregularities in a land development project in the Daejang-dongโฃ area of Seongnam, South Korea. The case has become a major political issue, with accusations leveled against figures associated with both the Democratic Party โand the โPeople Power Party.
