A generation in crisis: Why young people are so unhappy | Health

by Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor October 12, 2025
written by Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor

spain ⁤Faces a⁣ Youth Unhappiness ⁤Crisis Fueled by Inequality and Isolation

Madrid, Spain – A⁢ growing sense of disillusionment and unhappiness is gripping young ‌people in spain, a⁢ nation grappling with stark economic⁣ inequality and diminishing ⁣opportunities for social mobility, according to a recent surge‍ of analysis from experts and ⁣a heated‌ national debate. Despite ⁣being one of the wealthiest countries in the⁢ OECD, Spain exhibits some ‌of⁢ the lowest rates of ⁣social mobility, with over 35% of income inequality attributed to background factors – primarily parental ⁤socioeconomic ⁣status.

This lack ‌of prospect is fostering a “light‌ nihilism” among ⁢new generations, explains psychologist⁣ Patricia Castro, who notes a loss of faith in the‌ possibility of creating a better future. “Moreover, society makes them feel that the responsibility for their precarious situation⁤ lies with them. It’s a kind of‍ inward self-destruction: you blame ⁣yourself for your situation,” she stated.

The crisis is compounded by‍ increasing social atomization, ⁢leaving young people feeling disconnected and unable ‍to effect change collectively.‍ Castro observes a societal tendency to unfairly judge younger generations – criticizing their technology use, financial struggles, and ⁣even a recent ⁢shift ⁢towards conservatism – “People who‍ haven’t even had ‍the opportunity to screw up have⁤ been blamed.”

Experts are‍ urgently seeking solutions. A critical need is expanded access to mental health services, currently ‌severely lacking in Spain. The White Paper on Psychiatry in Spain, published by the Spanish Society of Psychiatry and Mental Health (SEPSM), reveals only 10‍ mental⁤ health professionals are available for every 100,000 children under 14 – a rate significantly lower⁤ than in comparable nations.

Beyond mental healthcare, solutions proposed include ‌delaying access to social media until age 14,⁢ as suggested⁤ by Jonathan Haidt, who ⁢also warns of the potential harms ⁣of ⁣emerging artificial intelligence. Improving economic ‌conditions, notably in the areas of employment and housing,is⁤ also considered vital.

However, strengthening ‌social ⁢connections remains a⁢ central focus. ‍”Not‌ all of us are⁢ going to have the job of our dreams or live in the city centre, but there‍ is‌ no ⁤shortage⁣ of people in the ⁤world,” Castro ‍emphasizes. ⁢

Literature professor Jesús G. Maestro offers a ⁣more philosophical remedy, suggesting young people read Don Quixote as a lesson ‌in the realities of idealism. he concludes with a stark warning: “If you don’t⁤ take care of young people, you ruin the future of society.”

Title: Zelensky Asks Macron for More Missile Defense Aid

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor October 12, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Kyiv ⁤ -⁣ Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky appealed to French President ⁢Emmanuel Macron for increased missile assistance‍ as Russia intensifies attacks on Ukraine‘s energy infrastructure.

During a phone call on Sunday,Zelensky emphasized⁤ Ukraine’s urgent need for air and missile defense‌ systems, stating,”I told him‌ about our priority needs, first and foremost air‌ and missile defense systems.” The request comes as Russia escalates its bombardment of Ukrainian power grids, leaving hundreds of thousands facing potential⁢ blackouts ahead‍ of winter. This renewed push for support underscores the critical role France plays as a‌ major military backer of ukraine, even as France navigates‌ its own internal political challenges following recent parliamentary⁢ elections.

The timing of Russia’s offensive coincides with heightened global focus on the Middle East and domestic⁤ political concerns within⁢ various nations, a dynamic Zelensky believes Moscow is exploiting. ‍”Russia is now taking advantage⁣ of this moment – the fact that the Middle⁣ East and domestic issues in every country are getting maximum attention,” he‌ said. Diplomatic initiatives to resolve the three-and-a-half-year-long conflict remain stalled, making continued military aid vital for Ukraine’s defense.

Threats on Facebook: 39-Year-Old Man Sent to Prison

by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor October 9, 2025
written by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor

October 9, 2025

“There is no evidence of the suspect’s capacity for self-control capable of curbing him in the event of an aggressive impulse even in the presence of an occasional meeting with his ex-wife and new partner”. Thus writes the judge in the precautionary custody order in prison served on a 39-year-old from Sulmona who has been locked up since yesterday in the Peligno institute on charges of persecutory acts.

The facts date back to the months of August and September when the man, already known to the police, had threatened his ex-wife and her current partner on social media with phrases such as “I’ll soon find out where you live. I’ll come and get you at home and after I’ve put my hands on you properly I’ll do the 41 bis with a smile” and “don’t put me in a position to come and look for you otherwise I’ll become dangerous”. Serious threats that the man had repeatedly posted about Facebook after seeing above Tiktok the video with his younger son and his ex’s new partner. Hence, the precautionary custody order in prison ordered by the judge for which there are serious indications of guilt and the measure of house arrest would not be suitable to avoid further threatening and harassing conduct.

Already convicted for the same crime, the 39-year-old had agreed to a total sentence of one year and four months in prison for threatening his wife and mother-in-law, between 2023 and 2024, a period in which the police had found some compressed air guns, a hammer, a military beret and kitchen knives in his home.

The lawyer Annasara Di Pietro will be assisting the suspect who will be subjected to interrogation in the next five days, while the offended people are assisted by the lawyer Teresa Nannarone.
