European Football Championship Qualification 2024 and Results: Belgium, Portugal, Serbia, and Spain

Belgium outclassed the weakened Azerbaijan 5-0 thanks to the four goals of the gunner Romelu Lukaku. 20 minutes of the first half were enough for the home captain to score four goals. Portugal defeated Iceland 2-0 and won for the tenth time in the group.

The favored Serbs started better in the city of Leskovac and Veljkovic opened the scoring in the 17th minute. But Rusev equalized in the 59th minute, and ten minutes later Despodov sent the visitors into the lead. In the 82nd minute, Babič decided on the distribution of points. The Bulgarians, for whom former Spartan forward Minčev played the first half, finished the qualification in the last fifth position and without a win.

Serbia will be playing at the European Championship for the first time since its establishment as an independent state in 2006. At the European Championship in 2000, Serbia and Montenegro competed.

Advancement from first place to the EURO, two goals in today’s match and a celebratory ritual among the fans, which Dominik Szoboszlai must have practiced honestly somewhere. 😃🥂pic.twitter.com/odWr2F0uXz

The Hungarians did not succeed in the first half in Budapest and conceded in the 36th minute after Rubežič’s goal. Captain Szoboszlai contributed to the home turnaround after the change of sides with two goals in two minutes, Ádám Nagy had the final say in the set time.

Lukaku opened the scoring in the 17th minute in Brussels. Then visiting Eddy Israfilov was sent off for two yellow cards in quick succession. The hot forward of AS Rome then scored three more goals between the 26th and 37th minutes. The best scorer in Belgian history improved to 83 international goals in 113 matches. Lukaku also cemented his position as the top qualifying scorer with 14 goals.

The 30-year-old former player of Chelsea, Manchester United or Inter Milan did not start in the second half, and the home team won only once without him. Trossard completed the Azerbaijani debacle in the last minute. The “Red Devils” dominated Group F without defeat, from which they advanced together with Austria.

Bruno Fernandes guided the Portuguese to a win in Lisbon in the 37th minute, the second home goal was added in the 66th minute by substitute Horta after Ronaldo’s pass. The team from the Iberian Peninsula kept a clean sheet in the ninth out of ten games in Group J, conceding only two goals from Slovakia in the qualification.

This ended the successful Euro campaign with a 2-1 victory in Bosnia and Herzegovina. All goals in Zenica were scored after the change of sides. Hrošovský’s own goal was answered by Boženík, after the dismissal of the home team’s Gojkovič, Šatek completed the Slovakian turnaround in the 71st minute.

Spain beat Georgia 3-1 to win their fourth home qualifier. After Le Normand’s opening goal in Valladolid, Kvaracchelija quickly equalized, but in the second half Torres and visiting Ločošvili hit their own goal. The Spanish dominated Group A by four points ahead of Scotland, who drew 3-3 with Norway in Glasgow.

Germany vs Turkey: Exciting Football Match Recap and Result

They saw a promising entry for the German team, as Kai Havertz opened the scoring in the 5th minute, but Ferdi Kadioglu and Kenan Yildiz turned the score around before the break. Gunner Niclas Füllkrug equalized shortly after the change of sides, but Yusuf Sari decided the Turks’ win in the 71st minute from a questionable penalty awarded for Havertz’s hand.

The Turks won over the Germans after 17 years. Nagelsmann suffered his first defeat since taking over in September after the sacked Hansi Flick. Before that, his men overseas defeated the USA (3:1) and drew with Mexico (2:2).

On Tuesday, the selection of the host country of the Euro will try to make amends in Vienna, where they will face another EC participant, Austria.

Preliminary football match in Berlin: Germany – Turkey 2:3 (1:2) Goals: 5. Havertz, 49. Füllkrug – 38. Kadioglu, 45.+2 Yildiz, 71. Sari from pen.

Former Czech Representative Daniel Pudil Discusses National Team’s Prospects for Upcoming Match and European Championship Qualification

Former Czech Representative Daniel Pudil Discusses National Team’s Prospects for Upcoming Match and European Championship Qualification

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com November 19, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

“You can’t play for a draw. I believe that the boys will enter the last match with great vigor and try to decide the match in the first ten to fifteen minutes so that they don’t have to worry until the end. I believe that they will manage the match,” former representative Daniel Pudil tells Sport.cz.

How does a player experience when a key encounter comes, in which only victory and advancement are expected? Does he allow himself to have huge expectations? Is nervousness working out with him? “The matches go quickly, there is no room to think about anything. Yes, it’s an extra important match, but the boys have already had big matches, either in cups or European leagues. There is a slight nervousness because it is about everything. But as soon as a person enters the field and makes the first pass, wins a fight or something like that, it falls off him,” describes the player who played for the national team in thirty-five matches.

The atmosphere around the national team is fueled not only by the still uncertain participation in the championship in Germany, but also by many other circumstances. The absence of midfielder Antonín Barák for several months is being dealt with, emotions were caused only by the additional nomination of forward Tomáš Čvančara and other moves by coach Šilhavý. The builder of the elite selection has been heavily criticized from many quarters for some time now, and his position is constantly debated.

“One certainly perceives it in some way, but I know from my own experience that when you come to a meeting, you try not to deal with external things. You concentrate on yourself, maybe you say something about it at the beginning of the meeting, but then you just concentrate on the performance. If the guys can do it, and I believe they will, everything can change and the criticism will subside. Everyone expected to pass such a group easily. But the teams we used to score seven goals a decade or more ago aren’t around anymore. It is necessary to take it in perspective. All teams are getting better,” explains Pudil.

However, he admits that criticism motivates the team. “Every player is happy when he can be in the squad. It’s not nice when people criticize you. But it gives you internal motivation, you want to shut up the critics, show them that you belong to the team. But the very first thing you want is team success. He is mainly looking at that one. The native must stick together. And whether you play or not, it doesn’t matter. You are in the selection of the best players of the Czech Republic. Of course, everyone wants to play, but they have to put their ego aside and be a team player,” mentions the fighter, who in his career worked for Slavia, Liberec, Genk, Watford and Sheffield Wednesday.

He himself recognized when negative comments, mistrust, and criticism rained down on the team. And he experienced an outburst of emotions with the national team, after advancing to the European Championship in 2012 in Montenegro, the footballers insulted former representative Radek Drulák and tore their suits.

“There was a lot of criticism at that time, it was really unpleasant. You feel it, you perceive it. And then everything falls out of you, you are relieved, you don’t think at all what the consequences might be. Sometimes you don’t mean the things you say or do. You are in euphoria, someone starts something, others catch on. It’s hard to tame. Hopefully the boys will be more reasonable now,” recounts Pudil, who ultimately did not watch the Euro in 2012, but then played in the continental championship four years later.

He has no doubts that the Czechs will make it to the European Championship on Monday. He believes in the strength of the team and the magic of Androva Stadium in Olomouc. “There was always a wonderful atmosphere there. Spectators will be excited to see progress to the Euros. They drive the team forward. I believe that they will give the boys self-confidence, and they will be able to do it,” exclaims the thirty-eight-year-old former representative, who now regularly reports on English football for Sport.cz.

Interview with Pilsen Goalkeeper Staněk on Upcoming Match Against Moldova and Recovery from Head Injury

Warsaw (from our reporter) – Staněk admitted that during the match he was also thinking about winning. At the same time, he clearly declared that the national team will want to beat Moldova in the last match on Monday, although a draw is enough for them to advance to the championship. The Pilsen goalkeeper also talked about how he gets caught in the helmet he wears after a head injury.

Do you take the point?

We take it, but on the other hand, let’s say that we had more chances in the match. Personally, I’m not completely satisfied. I think we had what it takes to win here. It’s a shame, we could have confirmed it here already.

In case of victory over Poland, you could celebrate promotion to the championship already here, on the other hand, a draw against Moldova at home on Monday is enough for you. How do you perceive the situation in the group after this round?

Speaking for myself, I’m sorry. On the other hand, we would like to win with Moldova anyway. We are not counting on a draw being enough for us. We will want to win on Monday.

What happened when the goal was conceded?

It was a ball in the pocket, this is one of the most difficult balls for me and for the defender. Once I saw the ball fly, I tried to cover the back post. Holi (Holeš) dribbled it to me, the ball unfortunately bounced in the middle and then the home team reached the goal. It was a special goal.

Was your most difficult save against Robert Lewandowski’s free kick attempt?

Probably yes. This is annoying when it’s up close, and especially when it’s kicked by Lewandowski. It was a difficult situation, on the other hand, they (the Poles) also had jams there. And even the shot in the first minutes was unpleasant.

After an unpleasant head injury, you returned to the gate. How do you manage the team you have? And how does it fit in your helmet?

It’s true that I’m a little more tired after matches. But that’s probably the only thing, otherwise I feel fine, there are no problems. And the helmet? I have her for the fourth game, I have her at every practice. I’m getting used to her. Those who don’t like caps have to get used to it more.

Do you like hats?

I don’t like not having them at training. Whenever it was cold, I had to take them off within five minutes because I felt stupid in them.

So you feel badass in a helmet?

Not that. A helmet is a bit different than a cap. The helmet is more stable on the head. It’s not ideal, but not a big problem either.

After the first match, you spoke exaggeratedly about whether you liked it.

That was really just a good-humored joke after the game. I don’t really care about that. I have her to protect me. I believe I won’t get hit in the head any time soon.

There was a lot of discussion as to whether you or Aleš Mandous would catch? How did the coaches justify it to you?

The coach was telling us this, but I would keep this information to myself. After all, these are internal things that I would not like to reveal.

It was snowing outside. Were you happy that it was played under a roof?

I saw it when we were leaving the hotel. I said: “you beauty, it’s snowing”. But then I realized there was a roof. It was an advantage.

Captain Tomáš Souček received an unpleasant blow to the head. Didn’t you feel angry?

He is a warrior. We can only be happy to have such a player. But I was startled by what actually happened. I don’t know what’s wrong with him, but I hope he’ll be okay.

Haraslín’s Performance in Soccer Match Against Iceland & Progress in Sparta: Expert Analysis

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com November 17, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Haraslín first crossed from the corner for Juraj Kucka’s first goal. In the second half, he adjusted the score to 3:1 and 4:1 after similar actions, when he dribbled towards the Icelandic goal from the left side, guided the ball to the center of the right wing and then sent it into the net.

“He went through certain stages in his personal development. We blamed him many times that in situations where he should go into a one-on-one fight, he simply has to do it. In Sparta, they really demand it, and he can do it. He has it in him. And even in this match (against Iceland) he confirmed how important it is to lead the ball in a tight spot, not to lose quality under pressure. And he was still able to crown her,” said former soccer player Ladislav Borbély on Slovak public television.

Slovak media highlight, among other things, Haraslín’s directness. “Not once did he hand over the ball as an alibi, the Icelanders will still have a headache the next day,” wrote sport.aktuality.sk.

“He has matured into a great player. In the last third of the pitch, he makes the right decisions, he has very good dribbling, finishing and the final phase,” said another former Slovak player, Peter Ďuriš, in the TV studio.

Haraslín is the best scorer in the Czech league with seven goals. “He made great progress in Sparta. He is able to realize himself in it and thanks to this, he offers what is his own – penetration and willingness not to give the ball away in a difficult situation. He has been accused several times of playing egoistically, but we want him to be a proper egoist and have self-confidence that brings better results for the national team,” added expert Borbély.

The 27-year-old express is on course and can look forward to the European Championship. They must also be happy about him in Sparta.

Coach Michal Probierz’s Decision on Arkadiusz Milik Omission from Polish National Team Selection

Coach Michal Probierz’s Decision on Arkadiusz Milik Omission from Polish National Team Selection

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com November 16, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The decision of the coach Michal Probierz to leave out the 29-year-old attacker aroused a variety of reactions in the country of our northern neighbors. Of course, even those who don’t understand. Why not take a player who regularly plays for the famous Juventus Turin to the national team? That would be a bold move for almost any pick.

“Absurd. Although Milik has not played ideally for the national team recently, he is still one of our best players. It makes me wonder if there is something more behind it,” mused Sebastian Stazsewski, editor of Polish TVP Sport, on the X social network.

The Poles’ last home draw with Moldova (1:1) apparently proved fatal for Milik. With Robert Lewandowski injured, he featured in the starting eleven and wasted a significant amount of scoring chances, meaning that Poland no longer have the fight for direct promotion to the championship in their hands. “I trust him. We will get out of this together,” defended the Juventus forward’s national team coach after the botched match. Less than a month later, however, he decided not to include him in the nomination at all.

“Honestly, I have my doubts. To make such a drastic change after such a statement? Probierz is a great coach, but sometimes too impulsive for my taste,” reflected Marek Koźmiński, former vice-president of the Polish Football Association.

NOTABLE NAMES OMITTED ❌

Michal Probierz has decided to omit several notable names for the upcoming November Poland camp:

▪️ Arkadiusz Milik
▪️ Bartosz Bereszyński
▪️ Jakub Kamiński
▪️ Sebastian Walukiewicz

— PSN Football (@PSN_Football) November 10, 2023

But many agree with the coach of the Polish national team. “Milik is not effective, the whole team pays for it. When a goalkeeper drops a scumbag between his legs, it is not easily forgotten. We should treat attackers who don’t give chances the same way. There is no objection to this decision,” said former Polish goalkeeper Jan Tomaszewski.

“I didn’t expect Probierz to miss him, but he showed the balls. For me, Milik is currently not among the three best strikers in the country,” journalist Dawid Dobrasz praised the fearlessness of the national team coach.

Surprising words? Not quite. Since 2016, Milik has scored only six times in forty-eight games in the Polish jersey, which is a rather sad record. Robert Lewandowski, Karol Šwiderski and Adam Buksa will thus take care of the attacking force in the key qualifying duel with the Czech Republic (November 17).

But. The first-named and the team’s biggest star in one person is recovering from injury, scoring her first league goals since the end of September at the weekend. The other two compete fairly regularly, but they play in less prestigious competitions. Šwiderski wears the Charlotte jersey in the American Major League Soccer, Buksa plays for Turkish Antalyaspor.

The Polish attack is therefore not in optimal condition before an important match. The question remains as to how he can take advantage of it…
