Moldova‘s⁢ Ruling ⁢Party Secures Victory in Parliamentary Election⁣ Amidst Russian Interference Allegations

CHIȘINĂU, Moldova – Moldova’s pro-European ⁤People’s Action and Solidarity (PAS) ‌party won a parliamentary election‍ Sunday, securing a clear path toward continued EU integration, according to results released Monday. The victory comes ‌as the country alleges a concerted effort‌ by russia to destabilize the election through disinformation, cyberattacks, and attempts to‌ incite unrest.

Alleged⁣ Russian⁢ schemes included⁣ orchestrating a large-scale vote-buying scheme, conducting more than⁣ 1,000 cyberattacks on critical ‌government infrastructure‍ so far this year, a plan to incite ‌riots around Sunday’s election, and a sprawling disinformation campaign online.

Election day ‍was marked by incidents including ‍bomb threats at multiple polling stations abroad, cyberattacks on electoral and government infrastructure, voters photographing their ballots, and reports of illegal transportation of voters to polling stations. Three individuals were⁢ detained on suspicion of plotting to cause unrest following the vote.

Igor Dodon, a former president and member of the pro-russian Patriotic Electoral ‍Bloc, alleged, without providing evidence, that the ruling PAS party meddled with the vote and called for‍ a protest in front of the Parliament building on Monday.Police warned that‌ individuals had been “promised money” to ‌attend the protest and cautioned against participation, stating organizers bear⁤ “absolute responsibility” ‍for any illegal actions.

PAS campaigned on⁢ a platform of accelerating Moldova’s path to EU membership, aiming to sign an accession treaty with the 27-nation bloc‍ by 2028, alongside pledges to double incomes, modernize infrastructure, and combat corruption.

Cristian Cantir, an associate professor of international relations at Oakland University, described the PAS‌ victory as “a clear win for pro-European forces in Moldova,” enabling continuity in pursuing EU integration. He added that “Moldova will continue to be in a ‌tough geopolitical habitat characterized by Russia’s attempts to pull it back into its‌ sphere of influence.”

Approximately 1.6⁤ million people, representing 52.1% of eligible voters, cast ballots, including 280,000⁤ votes from polling stations abroad, according to the Central Electoral Commission.

Israel Cycling Team Exclusion Sparks Giro dell’Emilia Controversy

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor September 28, 2025
written by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Italian Cycling Race Organizers⁤ Bar Israeli Team Amid ‌Pro-Palestinian Protest Concerns

Organizers of the Giro dell’Emilia,⁤ a one-day cycling race‍ scheduled for October 4th in Bologna,‌ Italy, have decided to exclude ‌the Israel-Premier Tech cycling team due to security concerns‍ stemming from pro-Palestinian protests. The decision, announced on Saturday, follows disruptions to the recent Vuelta a ⁢Espana cycling race in Madrid, where ⁤protesters blocked the Israeli ⁤team’s participation, ultimately leading to the cancellation of the race’s final stage.

Adriano Amici, the race organizer, stated the decision‌ was made “with regret” but necessary “for the safety of all athletes, technical staff, and spectators.” He explained the race’s final circuit, completed five times, presented a ⁣”very high” ‍risk of disruption. “We had to make this decision⁣ for reasons ⁢of public⁣ security,” Amici told Reuters.

The move comes as calls for Israel’s exclusion from global sporting events, festivals, and music competitions have increased since the ‍start of its military⁣ operation‌ in Gaza, ⁢which has ‌resulted in approximately 66,000 Palestinian deaths, a situation the United Nations has described⁤ as a ‍”genocide.”

Bologna’s local government, led by the center-left⁢ Democratic Party,‌ had previously called for ⁣the⁣ Israel-Premier Tech team’s exclusion, citing the Israeli government’s “serious crimes against the civilian population in ⁢the gaza ⁤Strip.” Roberta‌ Li Calzi, the city’s sport councillor, welcomed the decision, stating it would have been “hypocritical” to ‌allow ⁤a team‌ “linked to this [Israeli] government” to participate given the ongoing conflict.

The Israel-Premier Tech team is owned by Israeli-Canadian ‍property developer sylvan‍ Adams, who is described by the World Jewish Congress, of which he is the president for the Israel region, as “committed to promoting Israel’s global image.”

The decision to exclude the team follows recent clashes between police and pro-Palestinian protesters in Milan ‍during a ‌nationwide strike in Italy protesting‍ against Israel’s actions in Gaza.

Further pressure is mounting on Israel internationally. UEFA, European football’s governing body, ‌is expected ‍to vote soon on possibly suspending Israel’s football team from all⁢ competitions. A majority within ‌the 20-member UEFA ruling committee is anticipated⁢ to support excluding israel ⁤from ⁣games. Additionally, members of⁣ the Eurovision Song Contest are scheduled to vote in ⁢November on whether to exclude Israel from the 2026 ⁣competition.

Two Russians claiming to be former Wagner commanders admit killing children and civilians in Ukraine

Former Wagner Commanders ⁤Admit to Killing Children and Civilians‍ in Ukraine

Kyiv, Ukraine – Two former commanders with the Wagner Group, a Russian private military ‍company,‍ have reportedly confessed to killing Ukrainian children and civilians during fighting in the eastern cities of Bakhmut and‌ Soledar, according to statements made‍ public ‍Monday. The admissions come as international ‍pressure mounts on the Wagner Group, which has been accused‌ of widespread war crimes and increasingly brutal tactics in Ukraine.

The confessions, highlighted by Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian president’s office, mark a rare acknowledgement of atrocities committed during the conflict. Yermak stated via Twitter that “Russian terrorists confessed to numerous murders of Ukrainian children,”⁤ and demanded “tough and ‍fair” punishment for those responsible. The admissions‌ underscore growing concerns about the Wagner group’s ⁤disregard for civilian ⁢life and its role in some ‍of the most intense ⁤battles ⁤of the war.

CNN previously reported in february, speaking to two former Wagner ⁤fighters, that recruited convicts were deployed to the‍ front lines as ‌”human waves,” mirroring tactics from World War I. These fighters described a system where deserters or those‍ refusing orders ⁢were executed, and wounded soldiers were left without evacuation.

The United⁢ states has‍ taken steps to formally recognize the Wagner Group’s criminal activity. In January, the US Treasury Department designated Wagner as a “significant transnational⁤ criminal association” and imposed‌ sanctions on its supporting network.Simultaneously, the US Department of State announced sanctions targeting ‍Wagner’s infrastructure, including aviation firms, propaganda outlets, and front companies, as stated by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Russia-Ukraine War: Lavrov Warns of Decisive Response to Western Aggression

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor September 27, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Rising Tensions & Diplomatic Signals Amidst Continued Ukraine Conflict

Recent weeks have seen a surge in reported security incidents across Europe, coupled with diplomatic signals and ongoing fighting in Ukraine. Concerns are mounting that Russia is⁤ probing ‌European defenses‌ and attempting to erode support for Ukraine as winter approaches.

According to a post on X (formerly Twitter)⁤ by a ‌prominent source,Russia is “testing their‌ ability to defend themselves and trying to influence ⁤societies” to diminish aid ⁤to Ukraine. This follows reports of ‍alleged Russian drone incursions into Polish airspace and fighter jet violations of Estonian airspace earlier this month, as‌ well as the appearance of rogue drones near Danish airports, ⁤causing temporary closures.⁢ moscow has denied involvement in all these incidents.

Despite ‍the heightened tensions,Russian foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, speaking at ⁣the United Nations General Assembly ⁣(UNGA),expressed “some hopes” for ceasefire talks with the United States. He criticized Western accusations of Russia planning attacks on NATO and EU ‍countries, stating President Putin has repeatedly refuted such claims. Lavrov referenced a previous US-Russia dialog following a summit in Alaska and suggested ⁢the Trump administration ⁢sought a “realistic resolution” to the ‌Ukrainian crisis, emphasizing⁢ the shared obligation of Russia and the US in preventing a⁢ wider ⁣conflict.

This diplomatic signal comes after a shift in tone from‍ former US President Donald Trump, who, following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the UNGA, indicated Kyiv ⁢could possibly recapture all territory seized by Russia. this ⁣contrasts with his previous statements advocating for Ukrainian concessions.

On the ‌ground, fighting⁣ continues. Russia claims to have captured ⁣three villages – Derylove and Maiske in the Donetsk region, ‍and Stepove ⁤in the Dnipropetrovsk ⁣region -⁣ while ‌Ukraine reports a‍ accomplished drone strike on an ‍oil pumping⁤ facility in Russia’s⁢ Chuvashia region, ⁤aiming ⁣to disrupt Russian oil ‍revenues funding the war.

Ukrainian authorities report one fatality and twelve injuries from a Russian⁤ barrage in ⁣the Kherson region, alongside damage ‍to‍ railways in Odesa. Zelenskyy announced a Ukrainian delegation will travel to‍ the US in late September⁢ or early October to ‍discuss weapons deliveries, ‍and confirmed the recent receipt of a US-made Patriot ‌air defense ‌system from Israel, with two more expected later this year.

A four-day power outage at the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, the longest recorded during the war,has sparked blame between Russia and Ukraine. While outages are not uncommon, maintaining power to the plant’s‌ cooling and safety systems remains critical to prevent ⁣a potential reactor meltdown,⁣ as all six reactors are currently‍ offline.
