The⁣ Kremlin‌ dismissed US President Donald Trump’s warnings of a Russian economic collapse, asserting Moscow possesses “sufficient adn considerable margin of safety” to achieve President Vladimir Putin’s objectives.

EU economy Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis announced the bloc will urge‌ G7‍ partners to explore utilizing immobilized Russian⁤ assets to aid Ukraine, ‌coinciding with ‍finance ⁢ministers’ meetings in washington.

Efforts to restore power to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, controlled by Russia sence early ‍in the 2022 invasion‌ and disconnected from the Ukrainian grid since September 23, are scheduled to⁣ begin “soon,” according to IAEA head Rafael Grossi.

The company aims to finalize⁢ the purchase by June 2026.

Europe Losing Interest in Supporting Ukraine

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor October 14, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Support for Ukraine ‍Wanes Across Europe,Raising Concerns Over Long-Term Aid

Brussels – A growing ⁣sense of fatigue and domestic pressures are eroding public⁣ and political support for continued aid to Ukraine across several European nations, according to recent polling data and statements from government officials. while unwavering commitment remains from a core group of countries,a discernible⁢ shift⁢ in sentiment threatens the sustained financial and military assistance⁢ Kyiv relies upon as its war with Russia enters a protracted phase.

The diminishing enthusiasm stems from a ⁢confluence of factors, including rising inflation,‍ energy costs, and anxieties over economic recession impacting‍ European households. concerns over⁣ the escalating financial burden⁤ of⁢ supporting ⁣Ukraine⁣ – already exceeding €85 billion in commitments from‌ EU‍ member states and Norway -⁢ are increasingly voiced ‌by populist and nationalist political factions. This growing discontent is forcing governments to navigate a delicate balance between fulfilling international obligations and addressing⁢ the immediate needs of their own citizens.

Lina Romanuha, a Ukrainian curator and‌ artist⁣ in Kyiv, embodies the resilience of her nation, working to preserve cultural ⁢heritage amidst ongoing conflict. “These monuments are part of ⁣European civilization,” Romanuha stated, emphasizing the interconnectedness of Ukraine’s ‌fate with that of Europe.”If they are deleted, Europe also loses them.” However, her efforts, and Ukraine’s survival, are increasingly dependent on continued external support that is⁣ now facing‌ headwinds.

Recent surveys indicate a decline in public willingness to provide further aid. A poll conducted in Germany in November 2023 revealed that only 37% of respondents beleive their government should continue providing significant financial⁢ assistance to Ukraine, down from 50% in February 2022. Similar trends are observed in‍ Italy, France, and Hungary, where ‍domestic political considerations ‌are overshadowing solidarity with⁢ Ukraine.

The situation is notably acute in Hungary, where‌ Prime Minister viktor Orbán has consistently opposed EU sanctions against Russia and has repeatedly called for ‌a negotiated settlement, even at‌ the expense of ukrainian⁤ territorial integrity.‍ Orbán’s stance reflects a broader skepticism within certain Eastern European nations regarding the long-term viability of Ukraine’s resistance.

The potential consequences of dwindling European support are significant. Ukraine’s ability to sustain its military operations, rebuild its infrastructure, and maintain essential ‍public services hinges on continued financial inflows. A reduction in aid could prolong the conflict, embolden Russia,⁤ and destabilize the wider region.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen acknowledged the challenges during a recent address to the European Parliament, stating,”we must demonstrate unwavering resolve in our support for Ukraine, but we must also be mindful of the concerns of our citizens.” Negotiations are currently underway to ⁣secure a new €50 billion aid package for Ukraine,‍ but the proposal faces opposition from several ⁢member states demanding stricter oversight and conditions.

The Figure of Europe’s First Millennial Empress, a New Chapter of Modern Monarchy

by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor October 14, 2025
written by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor

Luxembourg‘s Grand Duchess‍ Stephanie, born February 18, 1984, is poised ⁤to become‌ Europe’s first millennial empress should her husband, Grand Duke Guillaume,⁤ ascend to the throne. ⁣The potential succession marks a generational⁤ shift for European‍ monarchy, blending tradition with a modern outlook.

The Grand⁢ Duke is the eldest son of Grand Duke Henri, who⁢ currently reigns. ‌With the Grand Duke Henri ‌approaching his 69th birthday on ⁢April 16, 1955, discussions surrounding the future of the Luxembourgish monarchy are gaining prominence. Grand Duchess‍ stephanie’s role ⁢as a modern ⁤royal figurehead, coupled with⁢ her adn grand Duke guillaume’s ⁣young family-Prince Charles, born ‍May 10, 2020, and Prince ⁣François, born March 29, 2023-signals ⁤a new chapter for the historic House of Luxembourg. Both princes are being raised at Fischbach Castle, the family’s long-held residence.

Stephanie⁣ Mahler de la Cour, a Belgian⁤ countess, married Guillaume in 2012. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a teacher. Her background and approach to royal⁢ duties are viewed as representing⁣ a more accessible and relatable image for the ⁤monarchy. The couple actively engage‌ with social ⁢media,‌ notably Instagram (@courgrandducale), offering a glimpse into ⁤their lives ⁢and royal engagements. This digital presence is‌ a departure from more traditional royal‌ communication strategies.

The Luxembourg monarchy is a constitutional one,‍ with the grand Duke serving as head of state. While largely ceremonial, the role carries notable‍ symbolic weight and represents national unity.A transition ⁢to Grand Duke Guillaume, and subsequently a future reign potentially‌ under a millennial monarch, could reshape the public perception and relevance of the institution in the 21st century.

cape Verde Makes World Cup History with Frist-Ever Qualification

Cape Town -⁣ Cape Verde has secured a⁤ historic berth ‌in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, becoming the sixth African nation to qualify for the ⁣expanded tournament. The island nation clinched its spot following a decisive 3-0 victory over Eswatini on Matchday 10 of the 2026 World Cup Qualification Africa zone, fueled by goals from dailon Livramento, Willy Semedo, and ⁤Stopira in the second half.

This qualification marks a monumental achievement for the Republic of Cabo Verde, a nation with a population of approximately 525,000, making it the second-smallest ⁢country ever to reach the World Cup‌ finals⁢ – trailing only Iceland, which qualified in 2018 with a population of around 350,000. Cape Verde finished atop Group D with 23 points, four ahead of Cameroon, who drew ⁤0-0 with⁣ Angola.

The team’s journey wasn’t without challenges, including a 4-1 loss to Cameroon‌ on ⁤matchday three, their only defeat in the qualifying campaign.⁢ Cameroon afterward endured a series of draws before falling to Cape Verde 1-0 last month.

Cape Verde joins Morocco, Tunisia, ⁣Egypt, Ghana, and ⁣Algeria as African representatives in the 2026 tournament, which will be co-hosted by the united states, Canada, and Mexico. They are the third debutant team to qualify, alongside Uzbekistan and Jordan, bringing the total number of qualified nations to 22.

remarkably, Cape Verde achieved this milestone with a ⁤squad largely comprised of players from leagues outside of Europe’s top five. Only ⁢one player, Logan Costa of Villarreal⁣ in LaLiga, currently plays in a major European league. The remainder compete in ⁤Portugal, Turkey, Cyprus, Israel, Hungary, Bulgaria, Russia, Finland, the⁣ Republic of Ireland, saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Leading the charge for Cape Verde is captain Ryan Mendes, ⁤the national team’s all-time leading scorer with 21 goals in 85 appearances. The squad also includes Bebe, a former Manchester United striker who now plays for Ibiza, a club in the Spanish Third‍ Division.

Cameroon, finishing as group runners-up, will now await the playoff draw to determine if they will also advance to the tournament.

A Kazakh Filmmaker Confronts the Nuclear Scars Through Her Documentary “Jara” — Global Issues

kazakh⁤ filmmaker Reclaims Women’s Stories from the Shadow of Nuclear testing in “Jara“

tokyo, Japan – October ⁢10, 2025 ‍- A powerful new documentary is giving ⁣voice to the often-silenced experiences of women impacted by decades of Soviet nuclear testing⁢ in Kazakhstan. “Jara – Radioactive Patriarchy: Women ⁢of Qazaqstan,” directed by‍ Kazakh filmmaker and human‌ rights advocate Aigerim Seitenova, premiered this week ⁣at the Toda Peace Memorial Hall in Tokyo, leaving audiences deeply moved and prompting renewed calls for nuclear disarmament.

The screening, co-organized by the Kazakh Nuclear Frontline Coalition (ASQAQQNFC), the Soka Gakkai Peace Committee, and Peace Boat, with support ‌from the Japan NGO Network for⁤ Nuclear⁤ Weapons Abolition (JANA), took place in a venue⁤ steeped in history.⁣ The Toda Peace Memorial hall is named for Josei⁣ Toda, the second president of ⁢Soka Gakkai, whose landmark 1957 declaration calling⁢ for the abolition ⁢of nuclear weapons remains a cornerstone of the global peace movement.

Seitenova’s 31-minute film shifts the focus from the widely documented physical devastation of the Semipalatinsk Test Site – where 456 nuclear weapons were detonated between 1949 and 1989 – to the often-invisible, intergenerational trauma⁢ experienced by women in the region.‍ Jara, meaning “wound” in Kazakh, explores ‍the stigma, psychological scars, and the agonizing fear of passing‌ on inherited health risks to future generations.

“This film was made to make visible‍ the voices of women who have lived in silence. They are not victims-they ⁢are storytellers ⁤and changemakers,” Seitenova explained to a⁤ captivated audience of‌ diplomats, journalists, students, and peace activists. “Most films show⁤ Semey as⁢ ‘the most nuked place‌ on Earth.’ I wanted to show resilience rather of fear-to reclaim our story in our own voice.”

The documentary’s⁤ power lies in ‌its intimate portrayal of women sharing⁤ their personal experiences, breaking decades ‍of⁢ silence surrounding the lasting impacts of nuclear testing. Seitenova’s own journey to filmmaking was sparked by a personal experience of humiliation, a story ⁤she shares in the film, highlighting the pervasive societal ⁤impacts of the testing.

“Jara – Radioactive patriarchy: Women of qazaqstan” is more ⁤than just a film; it’s a‌ testament to the⁣ strength and resilience of a community demanding to be heard, and a potent reminder of the human cost of nuclear weapons.it serves as a crucial contribution to the ‍ongoing ‌global conversation about nuclear disarmament and the urgent need to address the long-term consequences of past testing.
