Microsoft is centralizing game launchers within the Xbox app on Windows, aiming to create a unified hub for PC and handheld gamers. The tech giant is currently testing a feature dubbed “Personalized application selection” that automatically opens installed launchers like Steam or Epic Games Launcher when a game is selected within the Xbox app. If a launcher isn’t already present on the user’s system, the Xbox app will handle the installation.
The initiative is designed to work with Google Chrome and a wide range of other applications, with Microsoft actively expanding compatibility. The verge recently tested the beta feature, finding that it successfully launched the Epic Games Launcher when available, and initiated its installation when it wasn’t.

While the function is still in growth, some issues remain. Testing revealed difficulties installing GOG Galaxy. Microsoft intends to have the feature refined in time for the launch of the xbox Rog Ally on october 16.
