Magic: The Gathering Reveals New ‘Edge of Eternities’ Cards
Get ready, Planeswalkers! The “Edge of Eternities” set for Magic: The Gathering is set to launch next month, and two exclusive cards have just been revealed, offering a sneak peek into the game’s first foray into space.
Exploring the Sothera System
According to Wizards of the Coast, “Edge of Eternities” will transport players to the Sothera system, a realm brimming with wonder, adventure, and even more magic than you could imagine.
This set marks a significant departure, representing the game’s inaugural voyage into a space-themed setting.
Revealed here for the first time are the land cards โCascading Cataractsโ and โPower Depot,โ giving players a glimpse of what awaits them in this new collection.
Return to Core Mythology
While Wizards of the Coast has also focused on “Universes Beyond” sets, which incorporate characters and stories from other IPs like **Segaโs** โSonic the Hedgehogโ, the “Edge of Eternities” collection represents a return to the core Magic: The Gathering mythology.
Space Fantasy Theme
Mike Turian, executive producer for “Edge of Eternities,” described the setting as a space fantasy
or space opera.
When creating a new setting, the design team seeks to blend the tropes of that place with the established magic system, exemplifying the fantasy portion of the game.
In a press briefing, Turian pointed to the new “Starbreach Whale” card as an example of the science fantasy theme.

โI think it really encapsulates this idea, in a lot of ways, of, hey, our world defies physics,โ
Turian said. โWe embrace magic and magic-using and planes-walking and weโre not beholden to science the way typically science fiction is… We are more inspired by magic and the fantasy setting itself.โ
While details continue to emerge, anticipation builds for the set’s release on August 1. The global trading card game market is projected to reach $25.95 billion by 2032, growing at a CAGR of 8.4% (Fortune Business Insights).
