Wimmis | 27. September 2024

Pupils from the communities of Reutigen and Zwieselberg have been attending the high school in Wimmis for a long time. After the two communities merged at the beginning of this year, a new contract for school cooperation has now been approved. The local council also discussed various projects and their loans and follow-up loans.

At its meeting on September 19th, the Wimmis municipal council decided on some of the municipality’s current issues, as it wrote in a communiqué on Thursday. In it, the community informs about a new cooperation agreement, which became necessary because the communities of Reutigen and Zwieselberg merged at the beginning of this year. For many decades, students from both communities have been going to school in the Wimmis high school center. At first only the secondary school students, since summer 2015 also the secondary school students. Co-determination for the Reutigen community is ensured with two representatives on the school commission. Therefore, the Commission now has a new composition.

Renewal of the outdated auditorium technology

The stage technology of the Aula Chrümig was also a current topic. The technical equipment in the Chrümig auditorium, which dates back to the 1960s, is to be renovated for 165,000 francs. The project includes the replacement of all stage technology as well as new LED hall lighting. If the community meeting approves the loan this December, the work will be carried out in summer 2025. It is at least doubtful whether the new facility will continue to serve for more than 60 years.

Expansion around the Chrümig multi-purpose building

The local council also dealt with an expansion project in the community. Wenger Fenster AG is planning an expansion at the Wimmis location and is dependent on additional space for goods handling and parking spaces. These are to be realized around the Chrümig multi-purpose building. Since the building and the land belong to the municipality, the project is to be financed by the municipality to the tune of 250,000 francs. A corresponding loan will be requested from the community meeting in December 2025. The counter-financing takes place via a long-term rental to Wenger Fenster AG.

Money for new water pipes

The community is renewing a service and a road at the same time. The water pipe in the rear part of Lochmattestrasse is scheduled to be replaced next year. For this purpose, a loan of 150,000 francs will be requested from the community assembly. A further 180,000 francs will be requested from the municipal assembly for the road renovation that is taking place at the same time. The project therefore costs a total of 330,000 francs.

More money needed for construction work

Finally, the local council discussed a required additional loan. In connection with the new construction of the Walo AG factory site, the water pipe in Alte Staatsstrasse was replaced. The local council has approved a commitment loan of 60,000 francs for this purpose. The construction work turned out to be more difficult than expected, which is why an additional loan of almost 20,000 francs was necessary, concludes the statement from the municipality of Wimmis.

New festival hall with highlights | April 10, 2024

From 2025, the New Festival Hall will ensure that Bern has a new meeting place. Construction work is proceeding according to plan and at full speed. From May it will be possible to take part in construction site tours.

The many cranes stretching into the sky make it clear that there is a lot of construction going on in the north of Bern. Anyone who takes a leisurely stroll across the green Berner Allmend can see from a distance that great things are being built in the Bernexpo area, Bernexpo writes in its statement. The developer, Messepark Bern AG, and the general contractor, HRS Real Estate AG, are working closely with many companies in the region so that the opening of the New Festival Hall can take place as planned in a year’s time.

An event location for everything and everyone

The new building will consist of several main rooms: the foyer, the multifunctional stage hall as well as the cube and the deck as a congress center will create a new meeting place in the north of Bern. «We can hardly wait to present the new building to the public. Until that happens in a year, we will develop our skills as hosts parallel to the progress of the construction project and continually develop exciting event formats. The anticipation is huge,” says Bernexpo CEO Tom Winter.

In total, over 8,500 square meters of space enable meetings, congresses, cultural events, shows, trade fairs or events with a capacity of up to 9,000 people. With the upcoming multifunctional congress and event building, Bernexpo will present a large mix of uses. Regardless of whether seminars, company events or large entertainment formats are planned, any type of event can be held in the New Festhalle.

As host in the new building, Bernexpo will create moments for eternity with many planned events. “We are very much looking forward to exciting congress formats as well as events in the areas of culture and sport, about which many intensive discussions are currently being held,” says Oliver Vrieze, Chief Hospitality & Events.

Sustainable and a new meeting place

The New Festival Hall in the Minergie-P standard is a showcase object within the trade fair and event landscape in terms of energy efficiency. The new building is operated without the use of fossil fuels and has a modern photovoltaic system with an output of around 300 kWp.

A total of over 8,500 square meters of space will be created through the construction of the New Festival Hall.

44 new trees will be planted, which had to be removed from the exhibition grounds as part of the implementation. The proportion of natural areas will more than double and the planned green roofs will primarily use native plant species. In addition, a newly created outdoor area including a water feature, seating and planned catering options will ensure that the adjacent square becomes a public one

becomes a meeting place.

The construction team works excellently together and we have found a solution to every problem so far. We are pleased to be able to hand over the New Festival Hall to Bernexpo on the occasion of BEA 2025,” says Andrea Wucher, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the developer Messepark Bern AG.

Close cooperation with regional partners

The metal facade of the New Festival Hall, which will definitely attract attention, will give the Guisanplatz area a new look. Even if it seems so at first glance, the aluminum facade is not only gold-colored, but is also intended to be reminiscent of the sandstone that is part of the cityscape in Bern.

The expansion standard will be Minergie-P and is intended to be a showcase property in terms of energy efficiency.

Depending on the daylight and weather, the facade shimmers differently and more intensely. The company Bauimpuls AG from Heimberg is involved in the roofing and will install a partially accessible flat roof. But the inner values also count: In order to put the Neue Festhalle in the perfect light, Bernexpo is working with Zumtobel Licht AG. The Austrian company is responsible for the entire technical installation, while Ervotech AG takes care of the details and carries out the decorative work inside the new building.

Over the last few weeks, the massive steel beams have been assembled step by step on the construction site by Sottas AG. Another milestone in the logistically perfectly planned construction process of the New Festival Hall will soon be completed. «It is a real joy and fascinating to watch how the building grows and grows every day. Everything is on track and the new building is taking more and more shape,” says Oliver Senn, project manager for the new building at Bernexpo.

Modern stage system, large LED wall and long-standing catering partner

A state-of-the-art stage system will be installed in the Cube event room, which will be recessed at ground level and can be divided. In the Stage multifunctional hall, the stage is installed modularly according to the exact wishes of the respective event partners. This means that the organizers are guaranteed absolute flexibility at all times. The stage system is based on the Gala Systems Spiralift technology and is delivered and installed by Gilgen Logistics AG from Oberwangen.

The New Festival Hall will also have one of the most modern LED walls in the Cube event room

feature. At almost 28 meters wide and 5 meters high, the LED wall will be one of the largest in the Bern area. A sophisticated sound system ensures the best sound quality. In the area of gastronomy, Bernexpo is deepening its neighborly cooperation with Sportgastro, with which it has had a very good partnership for years. The sports gastro will be responsible for entertaining guests on various floors of the New Festival Hall and ensuring the physical well-being of those present.

Construction site tours will be carried out regularly from May onwards.

Various bars and a spacious kitchen with additional mobile units will be able to serve any type and size of event at any time and at the same time. Regardless of whether 30 guests or up to 9,000 visitors want to be catered for, the Sportgastro will fulfill every culinary request richly and professionally.

A visit to the construction site

From May onwards, Bernexpo will be offering regular construction site tours on the site, during which the guides will provide everything you need to know about the large construction project and are guaranteed to leave astonished faces with insights and facts. When exactly will the facade be installed? How high will the new event building actually be at its highest point? And what modern technology lies dormant inside the new building? These and many other questions are answered during the construction site tours.

BSV Bern Falls to Kriens-Luzern 30-36 in Handball Playoff Game 2: Farewell to Goalkeeper Aurel Bringolf

Handball-Playoffs | 2. April 2024

In the second game of the best-of-five series, the first in front of a home crowd, BSV Bern leaves the pitch as a loser. Kriens-Luzern gets the break at 36:30. Before the game, the departing Bern goalkeeper Aurel Bringolf was bid farewell.

The Bernese team also failed to win against Kriens in game two. (Archive image) Photo: zvg

The start of the game was miserable. After just eight minutes, BSV fell behind 0:6. This was the mortgage that the Stadtberners chased until the end of the game. In the end, BSV lost a weak game 30:36.

Aurel Bringolf was bid farewell before the game. The BSV thanks its goalkeeper for his commitment, as he writes in the match report.

At the start of the game, the people of Stadtbern seemed completely out of sorts. After just eight minutes, the city of Bern was behind 0:6. It wasn’t until the ninth minute that Tobias Spring scored the first goal for BSV. The Stadtberners were also unable to use the first power play as desired and so Martin Rubin called his first timeout very early on.

This was followed by a small rebellion from the BSV, in which the city of Berne was able to reduce the score to 11:15 in the 20th minute. When Zeljko Musa received a time penalty a little later, the people of Bern were once again able to play in the majority. But here too, the BSV didn’t manage to make anything countable out of it, on the contrary. Shortly before the break, BSV fell into an eight-goal deficit and, thanks to a goal from Felix Aellen, the score was 13:20 at the break.

Good start to the second half

The start of the second half was initially strong, but after just a few minutes the Lucerne team was able to restore their seven-goal lead. At Kriens it is always the young players like Luca Siegrist and Valentin Wolfisberg who pose major problems for BSV. So in the 42nd minute the score was 17:25 and the Bernese team was in danger of running out of time. A few minutes later, the city of Berne started the late comeback and, thanks to Sandro Gantner, was able to reduce the score to 25:30 in the 53rd minute. Five minutes before the end, Aellen was able to preserve the five-goal deficit with a penalty. Now the Lucerne team began to work their magic and scored a nice flyer goal to make it 27:33. Since Wolfisberg increased again shortly afterwards and dismissed Mats Hirt at the front, the preliminary decision was made. In the end the game is lost 30:36.

Tobias Spring and Luca Siegrist were named the best players of the game. Spring received an emotional farewell after 14 seasons in the BSV Berns uniform. Thank you Tobi for your huge commitment to BSV Bern.

As of March 1st, Christian Bartholet took over responsibility for global sales and marketing, the company announced. As CSO, he is a member of the 3S management. With more than 25 years of experience in the international construction supply industry, Christian Bartholet was most recently responsible for the global role as CSO Sales and Marketing at Jansen, a leading international manufacturer of building systems. He also has consulting and managing experience and worked for many years at Geberit in various international roles in sales, product management and marketing.

It is a privilege to be able to support 3S in this crucial growth phase in my role as CSO Sales and Marketing,” says Christian Bartholet.

Dominique Studer focuses on sales activities in the domestic market.

Restructuring

Dominique Studer, who was previously responsible for overall sales for 3S, will in future concentrate specifically on the rapidly growing Swiss market. This step is important and necessary to ensure consistent and optimal support for the significantly increased number of specialist partners and at the same time to bring further innovations onto the market. “In addition to developing building-integrated solar systems, we will increasingly offer digital solutions and services. The 3S Designer for planning 3S solar roofs, which we are launching shortly, is just a first step in this direction. We see great potential in digitalization and would like to support our specialist partners and solar system users even better in the future with various tools,” explains Dominique Studer.

With the founding of two national companies in the first quarter of 2024, the expansion of 3S Swiss Solar Solutions is also taking concrete shape. In order to ensure the necessary customer proximity, the company is currently building a powerful team in Germany and Austria. “The expansion into new markets and our growing presence continue to drive customer demand for modules manufactured in Switzerland,” says Dr. Patrick Hofer-Noser, CEO and founder of 3S. “With the highly efficient production facility in Worb (BE), which is unique in Europe, we have created the conditions to meet this demand for our premium product beyond the borders of Switzerland and thus make a decisive contribution to the energy transition,” adds the solar pioneer of Switzerland.

Almost 10,000 flashed incorrectly | February 19, 2024

Between mid-September and mid-October, incorrect speed measurements occurred in the city of Bern due to a programming error in four measuring systems. The error has been fixed and the systems released for operation have been in use again since Monday.

Between September 12 and October 19, 2023, incorrect speed measurements occurred due to an error in the programming of the software of four new measuring systems in the city of Bern. Of the approximately 7,300 payments, 7,231 repayments have been made so far, the Bern cantonal police wrote in a statement on Monday. In the remaining cases, we are still waiting for a response regarding account details.

The programming error was corrected in the four affected systems with 2.2 meter loop spacing. The Federal Institute of Metrology Metas calibrated the devices again and then released them for operation. These have been in use again since Monday.

Viktorija Golubic’s Australian Open Run and Ambitions for the 2024 Tennis Season

After Aus at the Australian Open | January 21, 2024

Viktorija Golubic can look back on a good start to the season in Australia despite a clear elimination in the third round against a strong Jelina Switolina. But the hunger is far from satisfied.

The Australian Open ended in the third round for Viktorija Golubic. Photos: Keystone

Even at the more senior tennis age of 31, you still have dreams. “The goal is to make a big impact at the big tournaments this year,” says Viktorija Golubic, who is usually reserved and highly motivated. “Just walk through it for two weeks and you’re done.” These are high ambitions, because the Grand Slam tournaments have not yet been Golubic’s flagship discipline.

The Zurich native has never won a game in the main draw at the US Open, neither in Melbourne until this year and in Paris eight years ago in nine attempts so far. Only in Wimbledon is the record with the quarter-finals in 2021 and the third round in 2019 somewhat encouraging. In this respect, the start in Australia was a clear step forward.

Opportunities not taken advantage of

Immediately after the clear 3:6, 2:6 against number 19 seed Jelina Switolina in the Margaret Court Arena, Golubic’s anger prevailed. “I’m obviously a bit annoyed because I feel like I could have shown a better match,” she admits. She is convinced that she actually has the means to put pressure on a strong and solid opponent like Svitolina. “But today I just couldn’t find it and couldn’t take advantage of my chances.”

Nevertheless, the Swiss woman draws a positive conclusion.

Nevertheless, she also drew a positive conclusion from the start of the year. In Hobart she survived the strong qualification and in Melbourne she achieved her first victory ever and followed it up with a second one – both times against higher ranked opponents. “I can take a lot of good things with me from Australia,” said the 2022 team world champion.

Lean Swiss balance sheet

Golubic also saved a meager Swiss balance sheet, which is not surprising. Without the pregnant Belinda Bencic and the injured Dominic Stricker, there were just three Swiss Tennis professionals in the main field, Stan Wawrinka and Lulu Sun were eliminated in the starting round.

Golubic’s final stop was against the Ukrainian Jelina Switolina.

This means that the second week of the Australian Open will take place without Swiss participation for the third time in the last four years. This never happened before this century – thanks to Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka, Martina Hingis and Patty Schnyder. Last year Bencic at least reached the round of 16, where she failed due to the overwhelming eventual winner Aryna Sabalenka. The fact that there is no Swiss at the start in the juniors fits in with the gloomy picture.

Olympics in sight

Viktorija Golubic doesn’t have to worry about this. In addition to a check for around 145,000 francs, she took home enough WTA points to move up from 85th place by almost fifteen places. Since she hardly has anything to defend in the coming half-year, she is already practically firmly in the main draw at Roland Garros and Wimbledon. “That gives some security,” says the Zurich native happily.

In addition, she is currently in 40th place in the Olympic rankings. To be sure of being in Paris, she needs at least position 56. The double silver medalist from Tokyo will continue in a week at the WTA tournament in Hua Hin, Thailand.
