Xandr DSP Shutters, Triggering Budget Shift to โDV360, Amazon DSP & the Trade Desk
Paris – October 26, 2023 – The closureโฃ of Xandr’s demand-side platform (DSP) is accelerating a significant reallocation of advertising budgetsโข in France, with DV360, amazon DSP,โ and The Trade Desk poised to benefit most, according toโ recent data โand industry analysis. The move follows a period โof perceived โขinstability and reduced investment in research and growth at Xandr, prompting advertisers to diversify their programmatic spending.
Historically aโฃ key Xandr customer, Biggie Group began shifting investments towards other DSPs โคasโฃ early โฃas last year, citing “Less stability on the part of Xandr and less efforts in terms โof R&D,” โคaccordingโ to VP Operations &โข Tech โDamien Mora. The agency now primarilyโค utilizes DV360, The Trade Desk, and Amazon DSP. Mora highlights Amazon DSP’s “very advantageous offers, especially โคin terms of guaranteed programmatic” as a key draw.
A significant advantage for amazon DSP lies in โขits direct โaccess to owned inventory, allowingโ “To have much less business tensionsโ with other SSPs” and greater costโฃ flexibility, Mora explains. Amazon is leveraging this position by expandingโค inventory integrations, recently adding partnerships with SiriusXMโฃ Media, Roku, โคand Disney โฃAdvertising.
Market share โdata fromโฃ Adomik,as of September 10,illustrates the shiftingโ landscape. DV360 leadsโข withโ 35.2% of the French display market share on the open web (excluding โaudio),followed by Google ads (30.2%), The Trade Desk (8%), Amazon DSP (6.9%), and Criteoโ (4.1%). Xandr has fallen โto seventh place with just 3.5% market share, trailing Teads.
The decline in โXandr investment began in โคmay, coinciding with the announcementโ of its closure, notes Adomik Chief Product Officer Jean-Franรงois Bernard. Even accounting for typical summer slowdowns, the loss is describedโ as a “long-term structural trend.” โฃSeveral advertisers, including Auchan and Bosch, fully halted Xandr spending during the summer, redirecting funds to โฃchoice DSPs.
Between January and August,โ Amazon DSP experiencedโ a substantial increase in market share, rising from โข3.7% to 7.2% (+3.5 points). the Trade Desk also saw growth, albeit at a slower pace (+1.2 points) over the same period.
