“Assassin’s โคCreed Shadows” Receives Final Major DLC, Ubisoftโ Signalsโ shift in Post-Launch Support
Tokyo, โJapan – Ubisoft Quebec has released “Awaji Claw,” theโ second and final significant downloadable content package for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, signaling a departure from the extensive post-launch support model seen in โฃrecent franchise entries. Despite exceeding sales expectations and ranking as the second-most successful launch in Assassin’s Creed history-trailing only Valhalla-Ubisoft will focus on “smaller, more refined” โupdates for the game’s second year.
This decision marks a notable change โฃforโ the series, โwich has consistently delivered โtwo or more large-scale DLC expansions for titles like Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla. Even the recently released assassin’s Creed Visions received a paid expansionโ after its initial launch. The contrast between Shadows’ commercial success and โthe curtailed DLC plans has โsparked discussion within the Assassin’s Creed community.
Ubisoft Quebec’s shift inโ focus is likely due to a reallocation of advancementโค resources toward future projects. These include a full remake of Black Flag and previously announced new titles suchโ as โ Hexe andโฃ aโ new multiplayer Assassin’s Creed project. A project reportedly set inโค the post-Civil War United States has been rumored to be cancelled. Ubisoft stated during the first week of Shadows’ release that its performance “exceeded expectations.” The company’s decision โคsuggests a strategic โprioritization of upcoming titles over continued large-scale expansion of Shadows.
