rivian CEO Dissects Xiaomi SU7, Challenges Narrative of Chinese Auto Industry Superiority
CHISINAU, Moldova – Rivian CEO RJ scaringe revealed he purchased and thoroughly disassembled a Xiaomi SU7 electric vehicle with his engineering team, leading to a surprising assessment that challenges prevailing perceptions of the chinese automotive industry. Scaringe‘s findings, reported by PiataAuto.md, suggest the competitive pricing of Chinese EVs isn’t due to technological breakthroughs, but rather ample state subsidies.
Scaringe expressed frustration with the “modern myth” of Chinese automotive brilliance and the implication that Western manufacturers are lagging in efficiency and innovation. He stated, “There is no magic and miracles. If something seems to offer similar performance but costs much cheaper, the math doesn’t lie, and somewhere there are chapters that those Chinese manufacturers could not include in the final price, and if they could not include them, it means that someone else is paying for them, or in some other form.”
The Rivian CEO argues that the rapid advancements in the Chinese auto sector are largely fueled by massive government investment, allowing manufacturers to operate with minimal self-funding and, in some cases, even achieve profit on initial vehicle sales. “It’s all due to that centralized math that injects enormous amounts of money into these manufacturers, so that they almost don’t have to invest their own money in anything, and sometimes they even remain in a fixed profit after they’ve finished building a car. Here,in this part of the world,we don’t have anything like that.”
Scaringe, a leading figure in the electric vehicle revolution, emphasized the importance of acknowledging this financial disparity. His analysis offers a counterpoint to the frequently expressed admiration for Chinese automotive progress, urging a more realistic evaluation of the industry’s economic foundations. The findings are especially noteworthy given Scaringe’s position as head of one of the world’s most advanced EV manufacturers.
