Mexican Journalist David Faitelson Criticizes Herrera and Alfaro Following World Cup Qualifying Results
November 19,2025 – Mexican sports journalist David Faitelson expressed strong disappointment following the failure of both Miguel “Piojo” Herrera’s Costa Rica and Gustavo “lechuga” Alfaro’s paraguay to secure World Cup qualification, compounded by Mexico’s 1-2 loss to Alfaro’s team. Faitelson took to social media to voice his criticism of Herrera’s performance and to express concerns about Mexico’s prospects in the upcoming tournament.
Faitelson described Herrera’s tenure with Costa Rica as a “monumental failure” in a post on his “X” account (formerly Twitter). The frustration stemmed from the expectation that three Mexican coaches – Luis Fernando Tena (Guatemala), Herrera (Costa Rica), and Javier “Vasco” Aguirre (Mexico) – would lead teams in the 2026 World Cup hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Only Aguirre’s Mexico has qualified thus far.
Adding to Faitelson’s dismay, mexico suffered a defeat against paraguay, coached by Alfaro, who previously managed Costa Rica. He further stated, also on “X”, “Ratified: with this level, nothing is going to happen with Mexico in the World Cup.”
Faitelson is known for his direct and often critical commentary on Mexican football. The results represent a setback for Mexican coaching ambitions on the international stage and raise questions about the national team’s performance heading into the World Cup.
