Miranda Levy,57,Sheds 5lbs in One Month with Personalized Nutrition App – and Ditching the Toast
LONDON – Broadcaster and writer Miranda Levy,57,reports a 5lb weight loss and noticeable health improvements after a month-long trial of the personalized nutrition app ZOE.Levy detailed her experience, revealing key dietary shifts and observations about the app’s scoring system in a recent report.
Levy initially “fell off the wagon” with a 42-scoring apple crumble, prompting a comment from ZOE acknowledging the fibre benefits of apples but flagging concerns about the white flour, butter, and sugar in the topping. She found the app’s feedback sometimes contradictory, noting a healthy seeded sourdough with hummus, feta, and salad received a modest score of 49 and a “lukewarm ‘enjoy in moderation'” proposal. “There appears to be a pattern where the app slightly demonises bread – even the healthy, non-processed varieties,” Levy observed, questioning the sustainability of a diet limited to hummus and salad.
Interestingly, a glass of red wine scored 58 points, a result Levy found surprising. ZOE’s nutritionist, Dr. Amati, conceded, “The app does have a problem with alcohol that we need to sort out.”
Despite these inconsistencies, Levy reported positive changes, permanently abandoning toast and jam in favor of porridge, berries, and Greek yoghurt. She no longer experiences pre-lunchtime hunger and has observed improvements in digestion, skin clarity, and hair shine.
“I’ve always been an energetic person, so don’t see huge changes on that score,” Levy wrote. “But when I step on the scales,I’m pleased to see I have lost 5lb: nothing dramatic, but I’m closer to 11st then when I started. If I continue on this trend, I’ll be dropping a dress size before Christmas.”
Levy concluded that while the core principles of cutting bread and increasing vegetable intake are well-known, her month with ZOE was “fun” and provided a unique “conversation starter at meal times.”
