Traffic Alert: 1500 Cyclists to Ride Through Colorado national Monument Saturday

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Motorists traveling near the Colorado National Monument and the town of Fruita shouldโค anticipate potential delays this Saturday, โขSeptember 13th, as approximately โ1500 cyclists participate in the annual Tour of the Moon cycling โคevent. The event is scheduled to begin at 7:15 a.m.
Increased Cyclist Presence Requires Caution
The Fruita Police Department (FPD) is urging drivers, โคpedestrians, and cyclists alike to exercise heightened awareness andโ caution throughout the day. With aโฃ meaningful increase in bicycle traffic, safety โis paramount.
“Drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, it โฃtakes everyoneโ to make sure this is a safe event and make sure that everyone that participates โขis safe,” stated Officer Ed Pachecoโ of the FPD. โข”Drivers, justโข slow down given the event times and riders, if you can, ride to the farthest rightโค as possible. Ride single file when able to.”

While โคno official road closures are planned, the FPD advises drivers to remain patient when navigating the area. They recommend โfamiliarizingโ yourself with the event’s bike routes in advance. To minimize potentialโฃ disruptions, drivers are encouraged toโข travel west to east whenever possible.
