Title: The Shrinking Man: Jean Dujardin’s Miniature Adventure

by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor October 22, 2025
written by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor

Jean Dujardin Shrinks⁢ in Jan Kounen’s “The Shrinking Man,” But Film Fails to Fully⁢ Expand

Paris ‍- Jean dujardin delivers a ‌physically demanding performance in Jan Kounen’s adaptation of Frédéric Beigbeder‘s ”99⁢ Francs,”⁢ now titled⁢ “The Shrinking Man,” but ⁣the film ultimately struggles to ⁤sustain its initial visual‍ impact, according to a recent review in Le Parisien. Kounen, previously ‌known for his ‍visually arresting work ‌- including partnering with Beigbeder on “99 Francs” in 2007 – employs a‌ striking technique of enlarging the world ⁤around Dujardin’s character, Paul, rather than diminishing him.

The film’s strength lies in ‍its‌ surreal imagery:⁤ needles become sword-sized, ants‌ transform into⁣ ponies, and⁤ a goldfish’s aquarium expands into an oceanic landscape. Dujardin,⁤ ten ‍years after “A Man Up to the Task” with Virginie Efira, reportedly continues ⁣a physical commitment to portraying diminishing stature, ‍spending two-thirds ⁣of the film alone and battling a cellar ‍spider. However, the review notes that the‍ novelty wears off, leading to viewer ⁢boredom. ⁤The absence of⁤ Marie-Josée Croze, who plays Paul’s wife,is felt, and the ‍film’s metaphorical weight and Alexandre Desplat’s‍ soundtrack are described⁣ as heavy-handed ⁣and invasive, respectively. Le Parisien‘s editor’s note rates the 1h39 science fiction film as a “not-so-giant‌ movie about a tiny hero.”

Santa Becomes Godmother of the Telethon 2025 for Rare Disease Research

by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor September 9, 2025
written by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor

Singer ⁢Santa Named Godmother of⁤ 2025 Telethon, Promising “All ⁣my Energy” to Rare Disease Research

PARIS, FRANCE – Pop artist Santa, best known as the former lead singer of the French ‍rock group Hyphen Hyphen and hits like ”Salty Popcorn,” “Start Me Again,” and “The Difference,” ‌will serve⁢ as the godmother of the 2025 Telethon, a major annual fundraising event for research ⁤into rare diseases. The proclamation⁤ signals a strategic effort⁤ to engage younger audiences with the vital cause.

Santa expressed her enthusiasm for the role, ‍stating, “What is⁣ more beautiful than healing a child? The Telethon is this nose to life, that of changing predictions,‍ transforming the incurable into progress, even⁢ healing. It is the ⁢hope that I⁣ would like to wear this year by becoming godmother ⁤of the Telethon. I⁣ will give all my energy.”

The Telethon, a cornerstone of French ‌philanthropic efforts, relies on widespread public participation. This year’s event ‍will unfold over a 30-hour television broadcast on the weekend of December⁤ 5th and 6th, ⁢complemented by a massive grassroots campaign. Organizers anticipate‌ the involvement of 280,000⁤ volunteers hosting approximately 22,000 events across 15,000 municipalities.

beyond the televised appeal, the Telethon is expanding its educational outreach. In Brittany, and ‍potentially other regions, the “1000 Researchers in Schools” initiative will bring scientists from ⁣Telethon laboratories directly into middle schools from ⁤November 3rd to December 5th, fostering⁢ a deeper⁤ understanding of rare disease research among ‌students.

Santa further emphasized the importance of the Telethon’s mission, adding, “The disease leaves a space – sometimes tiny – for laughter, tenderness, life… Each research, each donation is a step against the disease. Each gesture, an assertion that the future still belongs to children.”

The Telethon has a long history of driving significant advancements in the ‍treatment of rare genetic diseases, and with Santa’s involvement, organizers hope to amplify their impact and reach a‌ new generation of supporters.

The Bretón Theatre premieres the short film ‘Carillón’, which tells a love story set in the Espolón clock tower during the post-war period

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 13, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The City Councillor for Promotion, Miguel Sainz, together with the Culture Councillor, Rosa Fernández, and the director of the short film, Diego Pérez González, have presented this morning the premiere of the short film ‘Carillón’, whose screening will take place on 12 September at the Bretón Theatre.

This is a production by La Cuadrilla Films directed by Diego Pérez González and with a script adapted by Bernardo Sánchez, based on the play ‘Cuando suena el carillón’, by Martín Nalda. The councillor has indicated that “we are going to enjoy a very Logroño premiere, very much ours. A short film that takes place in the clock tower of the Espolón and with a melody that is part of the imagination and the cultural and sentimental heritage of the people of Logroño.”

Fernández stressed that this work shows that “Logroño can become a magnificent film setting.”

The film has a luxury cast with actors of the stature of Ramón Barea, María Martínez Losa, Josué Lapeña, Inma Ochoa and Ricardo Romanos, many of them from our land.

Regarding the synopsis of the short, which lasts 30 minutes, the film takes us to Logroño in 1948, where Andrés, badly wounded, hides in the clock tower of the Espolón and lives there. María, the maid from the floor below, discovers him. Stealth and danger will give way to the passion between the two protagonists. 75 years later, Andrés Jr., the clockmaker of the clock, will discover the whole truth about what happened in that tower.

Finally, Diego Pérez González thanked the City Council for “its support from the beginning, because it is a very Riojan story”. “80% of the team is also from La Rioja, not because they are from La Rioja but because we have people who are too good not to hire them”, he added.

The director stressed that “the most important character in the film is the clock and stressed that the most complex aspect of the shoot “was working with this space.” “I played a lot with very tight framing and camera angles to reinforce that feeling of confinement and also of intimacy,” he said.

Following the premiere on September 12 at the Bretón Theatre, Pérez explained that “the idea is to begin the festival circuit, with a strong national premiere.” He explained that he is considering options such as the Malaga Festival or the Seminci in Valladolid.

Ticket sales

The price of admission to the premiere of the short film ‘Carillón’ at the Bretón Theatre is 6 euros.

Ticket sales begin on August 19 at 11:00 a.m., during the usual box office hours of 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday. On Sundays and holidays, if there is a performance, the box office hours will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., and also two hours before the start of the performance.

Telephone sales will take place at the same times as the box office, through the telephone number 941 20 72 31. Online sales will be available from today without interruption through the website teatrobreton.org

Olympic Games Closing Ceremony: Zaho de Sagazan to Sing at the Cauldron, Yseult to Conclude with “My Way”

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 10, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

“I get up and I push you around, you don’t wake up, as usual”, “And now, the end is near. And so I face the final curtain”. Claude François in French, Frank Sinatra in English. “As usual” for the first. “My Way”, for the second. The ideal song to build a bridge over the Atlantic between Paris and Los Angeles this Sunday evening. It will clearly be one of the highlights of the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games. According to our information, it is the singer Yseult who will perform “My Way”, this American classic which was first a French creation co-written by Jacques Revaux, Gilles Thibault and Claude François himself.

The 29-year-old artist, discovered by the talent show “Nouvelle Star” in 2013 where she made it to the finals, a female revelation at the Victoires de la Musique in 2021, is preparing a breathtaking performance according to some indiscretions. The singer, who recently entered the legendary American Billboard thanks to the song “Alibi” in a trio with Sevdaliza and Pabllo Vittar, must conclude the evening as Celine Dion did for the opening with “Hymne à l’amour” by Édith Piaf. The lyrics of Sinatra’s song – “And now, the end is near, I am facing the final curtain” – will take on all the more meaning.

Before that, we also expect performances by Air, Phoenix and Angèle, some lyrical classics and probably a few more surprises. This closing ceremony should make the Stade de France shine brightly, but not only that.

According to our information, the director Thomas Jolly and his musical director Victor Le Masne have planned a sequence with Zaho de Sagazan at the Tuileries where the Olympic cauldron is located that amazes the audience every evening. The 24-year-old singer, who won four trophies at the last Victoires de la Musique, will be accompanied by around thirty backing singers. Although we don’t yet know what song the artist will perform, whose first album “La symphonie des éclairs” is one of the sensations of the season, she will be highly anticipated after her formidable cover of David Bowie’s “Modern Love” at the opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival in May.
