Drone Flights Over Vermont Homes: New Rules & Restrictions for ⁣Pilots

MONTPELIER, VT – As drone use increases across Vermont, residents are raising questions about airspace over thier properties and the legality of interfering with drone operation. Federal regulations govern drone flights,‌ and Vermont has its own restrictions, ⁢particularly concerning state lands. Here’s ‌what you need ‍to no.

Under federal law, anyone operating a drone weighing between 0.55 pounds‍ and 55 pounds for commercial purposes must be at least 16 years old and obtain FAA certification ⁣by‍ passing a knowledge test and registering the drone. The FAA considers part 107 the default rule set for these drones. ‍

Operators who endanger other aircraft or people on the ground can face fines exceeding $30,000, and the⁣ FAA can suspend or revoke their pilot certificate.

Is it legal to shoot down a drone? The FAA explicitly states ⁣that shooting down a drone is ⁢illegal both in Vermont⁤ and nationwide. Residents concerned about unsafe drone⁤ operation should⁢ contact local law enforcement. The FAA does not regulate drones ⁢regarding privacy concerns.

Were can drones fly in Vermont? Drones are permitted in both controlled and uncontrolled airspace, but restrictions apply. Federal law requires drone operators to avoid flying near airports, prisons, and other sensitive ⁤areas. A comprehensive list of restrictions can be found on the FAA website.

The Vermont Department of Forests, Parks ‌and Recreation prohibits drone use in state ⁤parks and forest facilities without written approval from the Commissioner, with exceptions only for‍ emergencies. This prohibition extends to launching and landing drones from these locations.

Resources for determining permissible flight locations include the FAA’s B4UFLY ⁤mobile app‍ and desktop site (https://airaware.aloft.ai/?lat=42.263405&long=-71.802193), which provides up-to-date airspace data. Operators should also be⁢ aware of “no Drone Zone” signage.

Chicago man put hit on top Border Patrol chief, prosecutors say

Chicago Man Allegedly Ordered Hit on Top Border⁣ Patrol Chief, Federal Prosecutors ‍Say

CHICAGO – A Chicago-area man has been charged⁢ with attempting to arrange the murder of a⁢ high-ranking U.S.‍ Border Patrol official, according ⁤to‍ federal prosecutors. The alleged plot, revealed in court documents unsealed Wednesday, underscores⁢ escalating tensions surrounding‌ immigration enforcement and security.

The case centers around Espinoza Martinez, whose alleged actions stem from a broader wave of‌ protests and legal challenges ⁣to Homeland Security operations in the Northern District of illinois, particularly surrounding⁣ a U.S.Customs and Immigration‌ Enforcement processing center in Broadview, illinois. The facility has become a focal point for Chicago-area demonstrations against immigration enforcement.

Prosecutors allege Espinoza⁢ Martinez‍ solicited an individual to carry ⁢out ‍the hit on the Border⁢ Patrol chief. Details‌ surrounding the ⁤alleged ⁤solicitation ⁢and the identity ⁣of the targeted official have not been publicly released,⁤ citing ongoing investigation concerns.

The unfolding situation arrives amid a series⁢ of legal setbacks for the Biden administration’s immigration⁣ enforcement efforts in the region. Late⁤ on the evening⁤ of Oct. 14, Homeland Security was forced to remove a fence erected⁤ around the Broadview facility following an order from U.S. District Judge LaShonda A. Hunt. The⁢ judge ruled ⁢the reinforced gate hindered ⁣the Village of broadview’s ability to respond⁤ to emergencies.

An immigration agency spokesperson responded to the‌ judge’s order by calling her an “activist judge” and asserting that removing the barrier “skyrockets” the risk of chaos ⁤and injury.

Federal prosecutors have also faced challenges in pursuing cases against protesters. Attorney General ‍Pam Bondi previously labeled demonstrators as “violent ⁢agitators” and vowed “the strongest federal ⁣charges possible.” However, the U.S. Attorney’s Office ‍in Chicago announced arrests in connection with the protests, with four of five cases subsequently dismissed.⁢ A felony ‍charge against 70-year-old Vietnam-era veteran dana Briggs was downgraded to a misdemeanor.

Feds Uncover Cash in Ongoing Financial Pursuit Linked to⁢ Kwame Kilpatrick‘s family

Fayetteville,Georgia – Federal prosecutors pursuing⁤ financial recovery in the wake of Detroit’s sprawling public corruption scandal have⁢ recently uncovered assets, including $6,704‌ in a Michigan Treasury Department account belonging to former Mayor Kwame ⁣Kilpatrick, and are actively seeking funds from members of his inner circle.the efforts represent a continuing attempt to recoup millions in unpaid taxes and restitution owed ‌to Detroit ‌taxpayers stemming from one of ⁢the largest public corruption cases in U.S. history.

The ongoing financial investigation, ⁢which includes targeting bank accounts and ⁣garnishing ⁤wages, highlights the long ⁢reach of the Kilpatrick scandal even ⁢after the former ⁣mayor’s sentence was ⁤commuted by President Donald trump in 2021.Prosecutors‍ are⁢ focused on recovering funds from those closest to‍ Kilpatrick, including ex-Detroit Treasurer Jeffrey Beasley and ‍former city contractor Bobby Ferguson.

In recent months, prosecutors secured court approval to ‌indefinitely seize 25% of Beasley’s paychecks. They are also pressing Ferguson⁢ to increase⁣ monthly ‍payments to satisfy over $2.6 million in restitution. Eleven months ago, a judge authorized the seizure of the $6,704 found in Kilpatrick’s Michigan Treasury account. However, there has been no public record of further⁣ collection efforts directed at Kilpatrick ‌himself since his sentence was commuted.

The ⁣investigation also extended to a $452,200 rental home in Fayetteville, Georgia, 21 miles south of Atlanta, but attempts to reach the property owner ⁢for comment⁢ were unsuccessful.

Prosecutors have been actively investigating the finances of individuals connected to Kilpatrick, seeking to recover funds related to the corruption scandal that plagued Detroit for ⁣years. This includes Jeffrey Beasley, a former Detroit Treasurer, ⁣and Bobby Ferguson, an ex-city contractor.

PHOENIX – The‌ family of Suzanna Delgado has filed a claim against the city of Phoenix alleging‌ negligence in the investigation of her death, citing concerns over the medical‌ examiner’s‍ handling of the case and ⁢a perceived lack of ⁣thoroughness by authorities. The claim comes as ⁣the family publicly voices their anguish and‌ demand for accountability, stating they have⁤ been ⁤”living a nightmare” since Delgado’s‍ death.

Attorney Sarah Fazal, ‌representing‌ the Delgado family, alleges ‍the medical examiner overlooked certain injuries and failed to address concerns raised by the family. “Every case deserves equal opportunity – no matter what race, no ⁤matter ‍what neighborhood you’re from,” Fazal⁣ said. “And every life matters.” Fazal has called ‍on ‌Phoenix police‍ to ‍reopen the investigation and for city and county⁢ leaders ‍to meet with the⁣ Delgado family. She also urged anyone with data to submit‌ an anonymous tip at 773-997-5443.

Sylvia Delgado, Suzanna’s mother, described her daughter as a loving mother of two young children. “She was not ⁤perfect,” Sylvia Delgado said through tears, “But she ⁤was ⁢trying, and she deserved⁤ a⁣ fair investigation into what⁢ happened to her.” She recounted her dismay at what ⁣she perceived as dismissive treatment from ⁤police and hospital staff when she requested a⁢ closer examination of her daughter’s neck. “That really broke me,” Sylvia Delgado recalled. ⁤”It told me that my daughter didn’t even matter to anyone there.”

Suzanna⁤ Delgado’s sister, Vanessa Vasquez,⁤ echoed ‍the sentiment, stating her sister was ⁣a devoted mother and a reliable friend.⁢ “Since the day she died, our family’s been living a nightmare,” Vasquez said. “Not only as⁤ she’s gone, but because people ⁢who were ⁢supposed to find out what happened to⁤ her didn’t do their jobs.”

The family hopes legal action ⁣will ⁤prevent similar inadequate ⁢investigations in the⁤ future.‌ “We’re here because my sister’s life matters,” Vasquez stated.”She ⁣deserves a real investigation and the truth – and not ‍assumptions ‌and shortcuts. ⁢Her kids⁢ deserve⁤ to grow up knowing‍ that ‌people cared enough to fight for their mom, ‍my‌ sister. We want clarity,⁤ we want accountability and we want justice.”

The claim filed against the city details the family’s grievances⁣ and seeks a thorough re-examination of⁢ the circumstances surrounding Suzanna delgado’s death.

Grand Jury to Investigate Funding of Hope Florida Foundation

TALLAHASSEE, FL – A grand jury has been convened in Tallahassee to investigate financial dealings involving the ‍Hope‌ Florida Foundation, a charity spearheaded by First Lady Casey ⁣DeSantis, according to reports Wednesday. The examination centers on a $10‍ million contribution received by the foundation and its subsequent‍ transfer to a‌ political committee.

The funds ‌originated from a $67‌ million settlement ‍with Centene, a Medicaid vendor, concerning overpayments to the⁢ state. Nearly all of the $10 million donation ‍was then directed to Keep Florida Clean, a political committee formerly led by James Uthmeier, who was then Governor Ron DeSantis’s chief of staff.

Keep Florida Clean spent heavily opposing two proposed constitutional amendments on the 2024 ballot: ⁢one to establish ⁣abortion rights and another to legalize recreational marijuana. Both amendments ultimately failed to pass. Following the election, DeSantis ‌appointed Uthmeier ⁣as Florida’s⁣ Attorney General, replacing Ashley Moody, who is now ‍a U.S. Senator.

The Hope Florida Foundation faced earlier⁢ scrutiny‌ in 2025 from a Florida House committee led by State Rep. Alex ‍Andrade, a Pensacola Republican, regarding the centene‍ payment. The committee investigated the $10 million as part of the larger $67 million‍ settlement. Andrade did not ⁤immediatly respond to a request for comment.

The⁣ Hope Florida foundation serves as the fundraising arm for the broader Hope⁢ Florida ⁢initiative, championed‍ by Casey DeSantis.

Requests for comment are pending with spokespeople for ⁢Governor ⁣DeSantis,Attorney⁢ General Uthmeier, and the Department of Children and‌ Families, which oversees the foundation. The⁣ Florida Democratic Party issued a ⁢fundraising appeal to supporters following news of the grand jury’s convening.

this is a‌ developing news story and might potentially ⁣be updated.
