Fort Pierce City Commissioner Resigns amid Child Exploitation Charges
Fort Pierce City Commissioner James Taylor, representing District 2, has submitted his resignation, effective Saturday, August 2. The decision follows accusations that Taylor sent nude photographs to a 12-year-old on snapchat.
TaylorS letter of resignation, addressed to the city clerk, states, “I am writing to inform you of my decision to voluntarily resign my position as City Commissioner, District 2, Seat 2 for the City of Fort Pierce.”
This move comes days after several elected officials, including U.S. Representative Brian Mast, publicly called for taylor’s resignation. Taylor faces 24 felony charges related to child exploitation, including transmitting harmful material and engaging in lewd computer activity. These charges stem from a report by an Illinois mother who alerted law enforcement to Taylor’s alleged communications with her daughter, who was 12 at the time. Taylor was previously arrested on a $360,000 bond.
The Fort Pierce City Commission is currently holding a special meeting to address the vacancy in the District 2 seat.
