by Alex Carter - Sports Editor November 3, 2025
written by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

ABC Under-17⁢ World Cup Qatar 2025: ⁢A Extensive Guide

The 20th ⁢edition of the FIFA U-17 World cup will be held in Qatar from November 3rd to 27th,2025,marking a significant expansion to 48 participating nations. This tournament‌ introduces a ‌new format designed to showcase emerging talent on a global stage.

Tournament Structure:

The competition will unfold in two distinct phases: a group stage followed ⁤by ⁣a direct elimination bracket. The 48 teams are divided ‍into twelve groups‌ of four, competing in a round-robin format within each ‍group.

Qualification & Advancement:

The top⁤ two teams from each group are guaranteed to advance to the ⁣knockout stage. Additionally, the eight best third-placed teams will also progress, bringing the total ⁤number of teams in the round of 32 to 32. For Colombia to advance, they must finish in the top two of their group or be ‌among ‌the eight highest-ranked third-place teams.

Tie-Breaking criteria:

Should teams be tied on points after the group stage, the following criteria will be applied,in order:

  1. Greater ⁤number ‍of points earned in matches between the tied teams.
  2. Superior ‍goal difference in matches⁤ between the tied‌ teams.
  3. Higher number of goals scored in matches between the tied teams.
  4. Greater goal difference across all group matches.
  5. Higher number of goals scored⁣ across all group matches.
  6. Better points based on fair play (fewer cards received).
  7. Drawing of lots (if all⁣ other criteria⁤ are equal).

Knockout Stage:

The 32 qualified teams will ‍then enter the‌ direct elimination phase, beginning with the round of 32. The bracket will ‍be seeded based on performance in the group stage, progressing through the round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and culminating in the final match, alongside a third-place‍ playoff.

New Rule: Penalty Shootouts

A key ‍change for this edition is⁣ the elimination ⁢of extra time in knockout stage⁤ matches. Any tie after 90 minutes ‌of regulation play ‍will⁣ be decided immediately by a penalty shootout, adding a dramatic element to the competition.

This expanded format and revised⁣ rules promise an exciting and competitive U-17 World Cup in⁢ Qatar 2025, offering a platform for the next generation of football stars to shine.

Petro Announces US Trip Despite Sanctions

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com November 3, 2025
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Colombian President petro ⁣to Attend UN Security council Despite US Sanctions

colombian President Gustavo Petro has announced his intention to travel to New York to‍ participate in sessions of the United Nations Security Council, even with recent sanctions imposed by the United States.Colombia is slated to become ‍a member of the council on January 1, 2026.

The declaration comes despite the revocation of Petro’s US visa and his inclusion on the clinton list – a US mechanism for financial sanctions targeting individuals and entities allegedly linked⁤ to ‌drug⁤ trafficking or money laundering. Petro, speaking to Al Jazeera, stated,”Colombia will be,as of january 1,a member of the Security Council.I will have the pleasure of returning to New York, even if the federal goverment does not want to receive me there.”

Petro intends to address escalating international conflicts during the council sessions, specifically citing the war in Sudan. He also expressed a willingness ⁤to yield Colombia’s seat to Palestinian representatives, acknowledging potential vetoes from‍ the US. “I will give the seat to the Palestinians, knowing that they veto us,” he said.

The diplomatic tensions stem from⁣ Petro’s participation in a New York protest where he⁢ urged US soldiers to disobey orders from then-President Donald Trump. The ⁢US ⁤State Department responded by announcing the visa ‍revocation, stating Petro’s actions were “reckless and inflammatory.”

In addition to the‌ president, his wife, Veronica⁤ Alcocer, his son, Nicolas Petro, and Minister‍ of the Interior, Armando Benedetti, have ⁢also been added ⁢to⁤ the Clinton list. All four have indicated plans to pursue legal action to have their names removed.

The sanctions are already ‍impacting the Colombian Presidency’s operations. During a recent trip to the Middle East, several companies refused to refuel the presidential ⁣plane due to concerns about potential secondary sanctions from the US.

Petro characterized the US actions as political‍ persecution, linking them to his international stances, notably his criticism of US military intervention in the caribbean and his support for the Palestinian people. He described the situation as “a chase,” noting the inclusion of himself, his ex-wife, and his eldest son on the list and the possibility of further individuals being added.
