Frankfurt (ots)

INERATEC is today officially breaking ground for the first large-scale industrial power-to-liquid (PtL) plant in Frankfurt together with Hesse’s Economics Minister Tarek Al-Wazir. From 2024, the plant will produce up to 2,500 tons of sustainable e-fuel annually and thus make an important contribution to achieving climate protection goals.

With the PtL system, liquid hydrocarbons, also known as e-fuels, are produced with the starting materials CO2 and green hydrogen. Industriepark Höchst offers optimal production conditions due to the existing infrastructure and the biogas plant that Infraserv Höchst operates on site. The demand for these climate-friendly synthetic fuels in shipping, aviation and the chemical industry is enormous. INERATEC’s goal is to be a pioneer in meeting this demand.

CEO Tim Böltken looks particularly at the global importance of the project: “As a company, we have recognized that the Power-to-X technologies must be used in global sweet spots that offer optimal conditions in the form of cheap renewable electricity. With our With modular and scalable technology, we can meet the requirements of these locations and offer tailor-made solutions to drive the decarbonization of industry and mobility. The pioneering plant in Frankfurt is a milestone in the development of sustainable e-fuel and an important step towards a climate-neutral future. ”

The pioneer plant is the first large-scale industrial PtL project in Germany. The system modules have been manufactured in Karlsruhe since the summer of 2022 and will be gradually integrated at the site over the following months, so that the commissioning process will begin by the end of the year. The planned start of production for the entire system is 2024.

Hesse’s Economics Minister, Tarek Al-Wazir, emphasizes the importance of the project for sustainable mobility in the state: “Hesse is becoming a pioneer in climate protection in air transport with the nation’s largest pilot plant for synthetic kerosene. The aim of the pilot plant is to produce synthetic kerosene on a much larger scale than before in order to gain experience for mass production. In the short term, CO2 emissions can be saved by admixture, and in the long term the possibility of making flying CO2-neutral can be created. But one thing is clear: In general, economical and efficient use of energy must come first and e-fuels will remain a rare commodity for a long time to come. They have to be used in a targeted manner where direct electrification is not possible, especially in the air or at sea.”

“Industrial Park Höchst has a long tradition of innovation, because the chemical industry has always played a pioneering role in the development of future technologies,” says Dr. Joachim Kreysing, Managing Director of Infraserv Höchst. With the Industriepark Höchst, the company operates one of the largest research and production sites for the chemical and pharmaceutical industry in Europe and is committed to the sustainable transformation of the industry. dr Joachim Kreysing: “We are delighted that INERATEC has chosen Industriepark Höchst as the location for the project, thereby expanding our innovation cluster.” Since Infraserv Höchst has been involved in the further development of hydrogen technology for many years and has a lot of experience, the conditions for the INERATEC project are ideal, especially since the new plant can be integrated into the production network.

INERATEC is investing over EUR 30 million in the construction of the facility, supported by the environmental innovation program. The funding from the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection confirms the climate protection potential and the pioneering character of the project. Further systems are already being planned. INERATEC is thus establishing itself as one of the market leaders for e-fuels.

INERATEC

INERATEC is a pioneer in the field of power-to-liquid applications. The company supplies sustainable fuels and chemical products. In modular chemical plants for Power-to-X and Gas-to-Liquid applications, hydrogen from renewable electricity and greenhouse gases such as CO2 are used to produce e-kerosene, CO2-neutral gasoline, clean diesel or synthetic waxes, methanol or SNG. Founded in 2016, the company has already implemented large-scale power-to-liquid plants at German locations to increase the availability of sustainable fuels and chemicals in various transport sectors such as aviation. For more information, see www.ineratec.com.

Industrial Park Höchst

Industriepark Höchst covers an area of 460 hectares and is home to around 90 companies from the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, basic and specialty chemicals, crop protection, food additives and services sectors. Around 22,000 people work on the site in the west of Frankfurt am Main. The sum of investments since the year 2000 is more than 8 billion euros. As the operating company of the site, Infraserv Höchst provides the companies with services in the areas of energy, waste disposal, network operation, site services, occupational health and safety, environmental protection and facility management. The subsidiaries belonging to the Infraserv Höchst Group provide services in the areas of logistics, education and process technology.

Infraserv GmbH & Co. Höchst KG employs around 2,100 people and 200 trainees. The Infraserv Höchst Group has around 3,000 employees and 230 trainees. In 2022, Infraserv Höchst, including its subsidiaries Infraserv Logistics, Infraserv Höchst Process Technology, Provadis Partner for Education and Consulting and Thermal Conversion Compound, achieved sales of around 1.6 billion euros.

“Last Generation” Climate Activists Trigger Traffic Meltdown in Hamburg, but Walk Free on Maundy Thursday

written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Hamburg – The chaotic laugh up their sticky fists!

On Maundy Thursday, members of the “Last Generation” campaign triggered a traffic meltdown around Hamburg with hour-long blockades. The police took more than 20 climate stickers into custody. But anyone who thinks that they will be in a cell at least for Easter is wrong.

In the evening at 7 p.m. everyone was free again!

“That’s what the criminal police decided,” said an officer in the police situation service on Good Friday. “Presumably because there were no grounds for detention or detention.”

That means: None of the chaotic people were even brought before a judge – capitulation!

The blockades on the Elbe Tunnel, on the Veddeler Damm and on the New Elbe Bridge/B75 affected three out of four major Elbe crossings. Easter travel was backed up by up to 20 kilometers on the A 1 towards Lübeck alone, and 15 kilometers on the A 7 from Fleestedt. Nothing worked on the A 255 either.

Habeck aims to increase funding for rainforest conservation.

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com March 15, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The Vice Chancellor praised the political will of the new Brazilian government to stop deforestation. He also addresses the skepticism about the Mercosur free trade agreement.

Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) has announced more financial aid from Germany to protect the rainforest. During a visit to a village in the Amazon rainforest near Manaus in Brazil, Habeck said that Germany would again provide funds through the international climate protection initiative, around 30 to 50 million euros are possible – admittedly a very small sum compared to other government spending.

Habeck once again praised the political will of the new Brazilian government to stop the deforestation of the rainforest. However, the “green lung”, which stores large amounts of carbon, has long been under threat, with possible serious consequences for the global climate. Regarding the planned free trade agreement between the EU and the South American confederation of states Mercosur, Habeck said with a view to environmental organizations that in Germany there was great concern that more trade would destroy more rainforest.

According to Habeck, interlocutors in Brazil see it the other way around. You said: “If you are willing to create a market for sustainability and this market works, then a non-sustainable way of doing business will no longer be possible and will be pushed back.”

Habeck and Agriculture Minister Cem Özdemir traveled on to the Colombian capital of Bogotá, where political talks are planned for Wednesday. The new President Gustavo Petro, a left-wing politician, had announced that he would protect the rainforest and curb the exploitation of raw material deposits. Colombia is currently one of Germany’s major suppliers of coal. Since August, the import of Russian coal into the EU has been banned because of the war in Ukraine.

Dresden builders resolve dispute with Habeck over energy crisis.

Dresden – Homeowners in Germany fear: Oil heating ban from next year? Compulsory renovations when your own four walls become an energy slingshot?

Holger Schubert (41) from Dresden wants to do everything right – before Habeck’s restructuring hammer takes hold. But he becomes a boomerang for him! Because the Saxon monument protection does not play along!

“I’m renovating a listed house from 1914, replacing the existing coal heating system with a modern heat pump, insulating the facade and roof and of course also wanting to replace the windows,” explains Schubert. But the latter forbids him the monument protection authority.

Schubert: “Out of ten windows in my house, I have to leave seven old ones in and refurbish them again. New, identical wooden lattice windows would insulate almost three times as well as the 109-year-old originals. With a single-glazed window from 1914 that I am supposed to keep, ten times as much heat is lost,” says the aircraft engineer, annoyed.

Building costs are exploding

The joke: Both his direct neighbor installed plastic windows in the house, which is also a listed building, without being asked. And the city of Dresden operates a day-care center with after-school care not far away in the listed former fire station. It also has new wooden lattice windows!

The monument protection office of the city of Dresden did not want to explain to BILD why this was the case.

The official madness comes the price hammer: four refurbished original windows alone cost him 16,500 euros, four new, optically identical only 7,600 euros. The construction costs for the house with 125 square meters have already climbed from 350,000 to 450,000 euros due to inflation and increased material and craftsman costs.

Nevertheless, Schubert affords an air heat pump for 45,000 euros for environmental protection (gas heating in comparison only 15,000 euros). Schubert fears: “The power consumption of the heat pump will increase enormously due to the poorer thermal insulation of the original windows.”

Wrote in desperation the native of Dresden sent a letter of protest to Saxon Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (47, CDU) and his Environment Minister Wolfram Günther (49, Greens) – without success.

Last week also received now Federal Climate Protection Minister Robert Habeck (53, Greens) Mail from Schubert. He writes: “As a client, I would like to voluntarily carry out energy-related refurbishment, but unfortunately the authorities have forbidden me to do so. In a few years I will probably be legally obliged to do this – isn’t that schizophrenic?”
