Pisa Celebrates 18th โคEdition of Short Universe Film Festival
Pisa, italy – The city of Pisa willโ once again become a hubโข for cinematic innovation as the 18th โขedition of Short Universe, the international short film โfestival, unfolds from today through Sunday.Hosted at the Sant’Anna High School of Pisa โin collaboration with student and alumni associations, the festival offers free admissionโค to a โdiverse programme of screenings, โdebates, and culturalโฃ events.
This year’s festivalโฃ showcases award-winning and critically acclaimedโฃ short films from prestigious โคevents like the Oscars, Sundance, Cannes, and Clermont-Ferrand.Founded by the Young People โขCultural Club, Short Universe remains dedicatedโฃ to its core mission: providing a platformโฃ for new audiovisualโ languages, supporting emerging filmmakers,โฃ andโข fostering dialog between cinema, society, politics, and human rights.
Leading the festival is โpresidentโ roberto Faenza, a renowned filmmaker who champions thisโฃ original vision. Thisโ year’s jury is headedโ by Tunisian-Canadian filmmaker Meryam Joobeur, celebrated for her award-winning short film “Brotherhood.”
Festival manager โฃFrancesco Monceri highlights the festival’s growing cultural and social โimpact, โฃparticularly with theโฃ increased involvement of the Sant’Anna School, creating a space for reflection on bothโค cinema and society.
The four-dayโค program โคincludes screenings,โข author Q&As, book presentations, and three thematic debates exploring crucialโ contemporary โissues: Rethinking theโฃ Human between war, politics and law, Artificial intelligence and โhuman conversion, and โ human being and non-human animals, between dialogue โคand misunderstandings.The โฃfestival kicks off today at 3:30 PM with “The invisible player” โคbyโ Stefanoโ Alpini.
Local leaders express strong support for theโ festival. Giuseppe Turchetti, Vice-Rector of the Sant’Anna School, emphasizes the โsynergy โขbetween artistic expression and academic research. Deputy Mayor filippo โBedini notes the relevance of the short film format in today’s โmedia landscape, praising its potential for experimentation,โ concise communication, and conveying cultural โขidentity.
