MOUNTAIN VIEW,CA & SAN FRANCISCO,CA – Google‘s Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT are expanding beyond instant responses, now offering the ability to schedule and repeat tasks – turning the chatbots into proactive digital assistants. both platforms allow users to set commands to run automatically at specified times, offering a new level of institution and automation.
The feature, initially introduced in the ChatGPT app months ago, allows users to delegate recurring reminders, information gathering,or creative prompts to the AI. gemini recently rolled out scheduled actions, but access currently requires a subscription to Google’s AI service, Google AI Pro, starting at $20 per month. Gemini can manage up to 10 scheduled actions concurrently.
Users can access scheduled actions in Gemini on the web at https://gemini.google.com/ and through its mobile apps for Android and iOS. to create a scheduled action, simply include scheduling details within the prompt. Examples include requesting Gemini to “generate an image of a cat playing wiht a ball of yarn, every Monday at 12 pm,” or “give me a general knowledge trivia question every evening at 7 pm.”
Scheduled actions can be set for a single occurrence - “next Friday at 3pm” – or on a recurring daily, weekly, or monthly basis. More complex scheduling cadences, like “every second Tuesday,” or random timings are not currently supported.
Once a scheduled action is created, Gemini will recap the task, time, and frequency for confirmation. actions run even when the Gemini app isn’t open, and users receive notifications and emails when an action is completed.
