Teslaโ Sued Following Fatal Cybertruck โIncident
Los โAngeles, CA – Tesla is facing a wrongful death lawsuit from โคthe parents of 19-year-old Kysta Kystuhara,โข who diedโค following a November 2023 incident involving a Cybertruck. โThe lawsuit alleges a defective door mechanism prevented their daughter from escaping the vehicle โคafter it caught fire, contributing to her death from burns and smoke inhalation.
According to a claim filed by โthe family and reportedโค by The New York โขTimes, the Cybertruck lacked a functional, accessible, andโฃ visible manual โdoor opening system, as well as a backup emergencyโข exit. The family asserts that hadโฃ a readily availableโข escape route existed, Kystuhara โ”wouldโฃ be alive today.”
The lawsuit details that Kystuhara, a passenger in the vehicle,โ “suffered unimaginable painโ andโฃ emotional suffering โbefore sheโ died.” Investigators found the manual release forโ the rear door concealed โunder a rubber mat within โขthe door storage area. โThe vehicle’s battery may have been compromised in the accident.
this incident adds to growing โscrutiny ofโ Tesla’s vehicleโ safety features. โฃlast month, the national Highwayโ Traffic Safety Governance (NHTSA) launched an inquiry into Tesla’s โขModel โY, prompted โby complaints including reports of parentsโ being unable to remove children from the back seat. In August, Tesla โwas ordered to pay a substantial sumโ to plaintiffs in a โcase where the โcompany’s Autopilot system was blamed forโ a fatal crash.
The parents of Kystuhara also filed a separate lawsuit earlier this year against the family of the Cybertruck’s driver, who also died โin โฃthe accident. Tesla has not yet responded โto requests for comment from theโ Associated Press regarding this latest lawsuit.
