While, he posits that this desire mirrors Jafar’s first wish to become Sultan, a position that quickly proved unsatisfying. “Every maker-turned-manager discovers the same emptiness,” Maymin writes, citing the example of Michael Jordan’s return to basketball after a stint as president of basketball operations for the Washington Wizards.

The second wish, according to Maymin, represents the pursuit of technical mastery – the desire to become the most powerful “sorcerer” through advanced tools and skills. This resonates with data scientists delving deeper into AI technologies, seeking fulfillment in leveraging their expertise. However, the analogy continues with Jafar’s ultimate fate: becoming an all-powerful genie, trapped within a confined space.
