A lawsuit has been filed against rapper Cardi B following an incident at Drai’s Beach Club in Las Vegas on July 29, 2023. Teh legal action, initiated by a plaintiff identified as “Jane Doe,” alleges that Cardi B intentionally threw a microphone at her, causing injury.
The complaint, filed in Clark County, Nevada, details that the event occurred during a performance where Cardi B was onstage under what the plaintiff described as “visibly high-temperature conditions.” According to the lawsuit, Cardi B verbally encouraged the audience to splash her with water. The rapper is also alleged to have poured water on herself from a bottle before striking a pose, reportedly saying, “Wooh that [expletive] feel good.”
Jane Doe claims she acted in accordance with the surroundings created by Cardi B’s actions, splashing a small portion of her drink in the rapper’s direction, a move consistent with othre attendees. Though, the lawsuit states that Cardi B, “in apparent anger and without warning,” then “aggressively and intentionally launched” her microphone, striking Jane Doe and causing her injury.
The plaintiff and her legal team contend that Cardi B knew or should have known that inviting water-throwing posed minimal risk of physical harm compared to throwing a “dense and blunt object” like a microphone. The lawsuit also alleges that the microphone was afterward put up for auction by its owner, an event that “further publicized the incident and exacerbated plaintiff’s emotional distress.”
The lawsuit includes claims of assault, battery, and negligence against Cardi B. Additionally, it names Drai’s management Group, alleging negligence and premises liability. Representatives for Cardi B and Drai’s have not yet responded to requests for comment. The complaint seeks both compensatory and punitive damages.
