Airbnb: Banned cameras inside its properties – 2024-03-12 11:02:23
Yesterday (11/3) the platform put an end to the cameras inside the accommodation rented on Airbnb, stating that it wants to protect the privacy of its customers.
Airbnb previously allowed hosts to have security cameras in common areas as long as the devices were clearly disclosed on the listing page and placed prominently in the home. Cameras, however, were never allowed in areas such as bedrooms and bathrooms.
“Our goal was to create new, clear rules that will provide our community with greater clarity about what to expect on Airbnb,” Juniper Downs, Airbnb’s head of community policy and partnerships, said in a blog post of the company on Monday.
Landlords who currently have indoor security cameras have until April 30 to remove them. After that date a host who violates the new policy may face consequences, including removal of their listing or account on the platform.
Outdoor security cameras, such as doorbell cameras, will continue to be allowed on Airbnb. Hosts, however, should notify guests of the presence and general location of any external cameras prior to booking.
