iPhone 17 Pro Loses Night Mode in Portrait Photography
CUPERTINO, CA – Apple has removed the Night mode option within the Portrait mode of โคits latestโข iPhone 17 Pro and โคPro Max devices, โlimiting low-light photography capabilities for users of the flagship phones. The change, first noted inโ an Apple โsupport guide and โขconfirmed by users โฃand tech publications, means iPhoneโ 17 Proโ owners can no longer utilize Night mode’s enhancedโ light gathering whileโฃ simultaneously employing the Portrait mode’s depth-of-field affect.
Previously, iPhone users could activate Night mode within Portrait mode toโ captureโ brighter, more detailed โimages โin dimly lit environments while still achieving the blurred background aesthetic. This functionality is no longer available on โthe iPhone 17 Pro, as โconfirmed by reports โคon Reddit and by The Verge‘s Tom Warren, who initiallyโค believed the absence was a โฃsoftware bug.
Apple has not yet publicly explained the removal of the โfeature or indicated weather it will โคbe reinstated in a future software update. The โVerge has reached out to Apple for โขcomment.
While Night mode remains accessible in other cameraโข modes on the iPhone 17 Pro, users whoโฃ prefer the subject focus and background blur โof Portrait mode will experience a diminished โคlow-light photography experience. โThe changeโฃ impacts the ability to capture high-quality Portrait photos in challenging โlighting conditions.
