Transavia CEO Speaks Out Against Schiphol Night Closure Plans

Transavia CEO Speaks Out Against Schiphol Night Closure Plans

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com April 19, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

“We always have to investigate in every situation: what are the solutions?” The CEO emphasizes the Dutch base of the airline and the growth that Transavia has seen in the Netherlands. “It’s not easy to pick it all up at once and put it somewhere else. That can have a big impact.”

Transavia strongly opposes plans to close Schiphol at night, to reduce noise pollution and CO2 emissions. According to De Nooijer, there is no need for a night shutdown, partly because the company’s new aircraft is quieter than the current aircraft. The CEO also warns of the impact on the reasonable price of airline tickets if Schiphol closes at night.

Night flights are important to the airline’s revenue model. Transavia wants to work three times a day, the CEO explains. “Because that means we can carry as many seats as we can and therefore continue to fly at a reasonable price. And the night is a very important part of that.”

According to De Nooijer, 73 percent of Transavia’s all-night slots – between midnight and 5am – are at Schiphol. “We are the main user in that segment. “

After more than 1,200 flight cancellations, air traffic in Dubai is getting back on track

After more than 1,200 flight cancellations, air traffic in Dubai is getting back on track

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com April 19, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

There were many flight cancellations on Tuesday and Wednesday in particular, leaving many thousands of travelers stranded at the airport. Many flights departed again on Thursday, but often with significant delays. The problems should largely be over by Friday.

Large parts of the airport, but also the city of Dubai, were flooded on Tuesday because more rain fell within 24 hours than normally falls in an entire year. As a result, cars drifted through the streets and at least one person died in the emirate.

Initially, an employee of the Emirates Meteorological Institute (NCM) said that the rain was partly artificially generated with chemicals, but this was later denied.

Rare Airbus A310 to Schiphol due to state visit of the Spanish king

The Airbus A310 once flew for many major airlines, including KLM and Martinair. Even Transavia once had one on loan. There are currently few of this type in service as passenger aircraft: some air forces are still active with it.

Air Transat (Canada) and Tarom (Romania) still flew the A310 to Schiphol until 2018, but have said goodbye to the type. Only the Turkish ULS Cargo still flies it regularly on Turkish Airlines freight flights between Istanbul and Amsterdam.

It state visit of the Spanish royal couple officially starts on Wednesday and lasts until Thursday evening. A Dassault Falcon 900 and the aforementioned Airbus A310 of the Spanish Air Force are expected at Schiphol on Wednesday afternoon and evening respectively.

Fighter planes from Volkel air base escort Felipe and Letizia. That is why the base is open a little longer, until 7 p.m. The intention is for the Falcon to be parked at Schiphol-Oost, while the A310 has been allocated the P platform between the Zwanenburgbaan and the A4 highway.

The KNMI has already warned for thunderstorms with heavy wind gusts between 75 and 100 kilometers per hour on Monday afternoon and evening. Code yellow applies to the entire country from noon.

“This afternoon there will be heavy showers over the country between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. During these showers there will be thunder, hail and heavy gusts of wind for a short time. In the evening the heavy gusts of wind will decrease inland, but the western coastal provinces will remain warm until the night. There is a chance of heavy gusts of wind on Tuesday,” the KNMI said.

Israel reports reopening of airspace

Israel reports reopening of airspace

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com April 15, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Israeli airspace was closed due to the large-scale Iranian attack with missiles and drones. Some other countries in the region had also taken such measures. Jordan has also reported the reopening of its airspace.

Of the more than 300 drones and missiles that Iran has fired at Israel, “99 percent” were intercepted by air defense systems and with the help of “partners,” Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said. However, the Nevatim military base in the Negev desert suffered minor damage.

According to Hagari, Iran fired 170 drones at Israel, none of which entered Israeli airspace. They were all shot down outside the country’s borders by, among others, Jordanian air defenses and with American and British help. The thirty cruise missiles launched by Iran also did not enter Israeli airspace. 25 were shot down by the Israeli air force.

Iran also fired 120 ballistic missiles. “A number of Iranian missiles fell on Israeli territory,” Hagari said. “They caused minor damage to a military base without causing any fatalities. Only a little girl was injured,” Hagari said, stressing that the attack is not over yet.

Iran’s allies fired missiles and drones at Israel from Iraq and Yemen. These would not have reached Israel either.

Americans and British
American and British warplanes are said to have shot down an unknown number of Iranian drones en route to Israel over the border area between Iraq and Syria. This was reported by the Israeli news channel Channel 12 TV, without citing sources. Three US officials have confirmed that the US military has shot down Iranian drones heading towards Israel. They did not say how many drones were shot down or where it happened.

Spirit Airlines Mistakenly Sends Child to Wrong Airport: Internal Investigation and Employee Fired

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com December 31, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The child was supposed to have been on a Spirit plane from Philadelphia International Airport to Southwest Florida International Airport in the city of Fort Myers on December 21. However, he was put on a flight to Orlando, about 150 miles north.

The grandmother, Maria Ramos, was supposed to pick up her grandchild but was told in Fort Myers that he had “missed” his flight. Ramos then showed proof of the boy’s mother checking in on the correct flight in Philadelphia, after which Spirit’s mistake was exposed.

Maria Ramos picked up the young passenger in her own car; Spirit apologized and later reimbursed the grandmother’s expenses.

Wrong gate
The airline also started an internal investigation, which revealed last week that the mistake was committed by a staff member.

Like every airline, Spirit also has meticulous procedures unaccompanied minors. There must be an attendant at the departure airport, up to the gate. At the arrival airport, young passengers are then met at the gate and the airline takes care of them until family or other passengers take over responsibility.

In the present case, the employee did not pay close attention and did not check the child’s boarding pass at the destination. Spirit Airlines fired the employee for this error.
