The Mummy Returns & Fight Club: Classic Films Get Re-Releases & 4K Upgrades

by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor February 20, 2026
written by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor

Universal Pictures will bring Stephen Sommers’ 2001 adventure film, The Mummy Returns, back to theaters nationwide on March 27th, marking the film’s 25th anniversary. Tickets go on sale tomorrow, February 20th, according to a statement from the studio.

The re-release features Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz reprising their roles as Rick O’Connell and Evelyn Carnahan, respectively. The film continues the story ten years after the events of 1999’s The Mummy, and notably introduces Dwayne Johnson in his acting debut as The Scorpion King, a character who would later receive his own prequel in 2002.

The Mummy Returns was a significant box office success upon its initial release in May 2001, described as “a gleeful ode to the spirit of Saturday morning serials” and “filled with bombast and eye-popping visual effects.” The plot centers on the reawakening of Imhotep after his mummified body is transported to a museum in London, initiating a new wave of terror.

The anniversary re-release coincides with a similar theatrical event for David Fincher’s 1999 film, Fight Club. That film will have a one-night-only screening on April 22nd, tied to the May 12th release of a 4K Ultra HD version of the film. The 4K release will include multiple commentary tracks, featurettes, deleted scenes, and press materials, according to announcements from Sony.

Stephen Sommers, who directed The Mummy Returns, previously directed 1999’s The Mummy, as well as 2004’s Van Helsing and 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Sommers began his career in theater and rock band management in Europe before attending the USC School of Cinema-Television.

Chris Hemsworth Teases Unique Future for Thor After ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ | Marvel

by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor February 19, 2026
written by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor

Chris Hemsworth has indicated a potential continuation of his role as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) beyond the forthcoming “Avengers: Doomsday,” signaling a shift from his previously expressed uncertainty about the character’s future.

Six months ago, Hemsworth appeared less definitive about his involvement with Thor, telling the BBC in August that the path forward was unclear. “I don’t know. We’ll see where [Avengers: Doomsday] goes,” he said at the time, adding that the team was “sort of unpacking all of that as we speak and figuring out where each of these characters goes.”

Now, although promoting his new film “Crime 101,” Hemsworth revealed conversations with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige have sparked optimism. Speaking on the SmartLess podcast, as reported by The Playlist, Hemsworth suggested he could reprise the role “a couple more times.” According to Hemsworth, Feige believes audiences now anticipate “dramatic turns” for the character, opening the door for future storylines. “We’ve got some ideas to do something pretty unique again and hopefully be [different],” Hemsworth stated.

The actor also reflected on the tonal challenges of portraying Thor, particularly following the mixed reception to “Thor: Love and Thunder.” He described the film as leaning into a comedic style that, in retrospect, may have gone too far. “It was kind of like a Monty Python sketch, and we took the piss probably a little much,” Hemsworth explained. He acknowledged the resulting backlash, with some viewers questioning the character’s portrayal. “There was this real kind of, ‘Why is he a goofball and why is it like this?’ And, [audiences] violently offended and we were like, ‘Oh, we’re just having fun or trying to try something different.’”

Hemsworth noted that “Ragnarok” successfully navigated a tonal shift, but “Love and Thunder” demonstrated the need for careful balance. He emphasized the importance of avoiding extremes in future installments.

While a fifth standalone “Thor” film has not been officially announced, Hemsworth’s comments suggest Marvel is open to exploring further adventures with the character. “Avengers: Doomsday” is currently scheduled for release on December 18th, 2026.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer Release Date & Joe Keery as Harry Osborn?

by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor February 14, 2026
written by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor

Director Destin Daniel Cretton has acknowledged that a trailer for the upcoming “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is “coming,” responding to persistent fan inquiries about its release date. The confirmation came in a recent interview with BigGoldBet, where Cretton offered a deliberately vague timeline, stating the trailer would arrive when it’s “really good.”

Speculation about a trailer debut tied to the Super Bowl earlier this month proved unfounded. However, recent merchandise leaks, featuring silhouettes of characters including Scorpion, Boomerang, and Savage Hulk, have fueled anticipation. These images suggest a potential focus on classic Spider-Man villains in the new film.

The forthcoming trailer follows a pattern established by its predecessor, “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which released its first teaser almost four months before its theatrical debut in December 2021. If “Brand New Day” adheres to a similar schedule, fans can expect the first official glimpse of the film around the Easter holiday weekend in early April.

Adding to the intrigue, actor Joe Keery, known for his role in “Stranger Things,” has addressed rumors linking him to the character of Harry Osborn in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In an interview with Screen Rant, Keery described the speculation as “fun to entertain,” expressing a willingness to explore the possibility while playfully requesting a script.

Sony Pictures first unveiled details about “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” during its CinemaCon presentation in April 2025, alongside announcements for “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” and a series of films based on The Beatles. Cretton, who previously directed “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings,” was confirmed as the director for the new Spider-Man installment at that time.

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is currently scheduled for release in cinemas on July 31st.

Emerald Fennell’s Zatanna Film: Why the DC Project Was Scrapped

by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor February 13, 2026
written by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor

Emerald Fennell’s planned solo film for DC Comics’ Zatanna, a powerful stage magician and sorceress, was deemed “too dark” for Warner Bros. Before the studio’s restructuring under James Gunn and Peter Safran, the writer and director revealed this week.

Fennell, known for her function on “Promising Young Woman” and the recently released “Saltburn,” discussed the abandoned project even as promoting “Wuthering Heights” on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast. She had been tapped to write the script in early 2021 as part of a broader effort by J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions to develop a “Justice League Dark” universe, according to reports at the time.

“I feel it was demented because I was probably going through it at the time,” Fennell said, describing the script as a reflection of her own emotional state following the success of “Promising Young Woman.” “I just finished ‘Promising Young Woman,’ and there was this huge thing in this world that I’d never operated in. I was like, ‘Okay, how do I make the version of a superhero movie that I would connect to emotionally?’ [I was a] woman in the middle of a nervous breakdown.”

She added, “So it’s a script reflective of a woman in the middle of a nervous breakdown, I would say. I suppose it just meant that it was probably too far away from the genre. It was really dark. I haven’t read it for a really long time because I found it really difficult.”

The Zatanna character, created by Gardner Fox and Murphy Anderson in 1964, first appeared in “Hawkman #4” and has since become a prominent figure in DC Comics, particularly as a member of the “Justice League Dark” team. Prior to Fennell’s project, Guillermo del Toro had too explored a “Justice League Dark” film featuring Zatanna, but that effort also failed to materialize.

Fennell expressed regret that she hadn’t fully delivered what Warner Bros. Was seeking. “I love JJ so much and he took a chance on offering me to do it, and I really wanted to deliver something amazing for them, and I always felt like I hadn’t quite delivered the thing that they wanted.”

Zatanna previously appeared in live-action as a guest star on the television series “Smallville,” portrayed by Serinda Swan. The character’s potential substantial-screen debut remains unrealized following the cancellation of Fennell’s project and the subsequent overhaul of DC’s film slate under Gunn and Safran.

‘The Last of Us’ Season 3: Kaitlyn Dever Hints at Production, Fans Anticipate a New Chapter

The highly anticipated third season of HBO’s critically acclaimed series, The Last of Us, is steadily moving toward production, with recent updates offering a glimpse into the challenges and excitement surrounding the next installment. Actress Kaitlyn Dever, who is set to portray a key character in the upcoming season, has provided some intriguing teasers about the production process, fueling speculation and excitement among fans. Deadline reported on Dever’s comments, highlighting the complexities of bringing the beloved video game narrative to life. This article delves into the current status of The Last of Us Season 3, explores dever’s insights, and examines what fans can expect from the next chapter of this post-apocalyptic saga.

Production Timeline and Challenges

The journey to Season 3 hasn’t been without its hurdles. Initially slated to begin production in early 2024, the project faced delays due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes, wich significantly impacted television and film production schedules. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, lasting from May to September, and the Screen Actors guild-American Federation of Television and Radio artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike, running from July to November, brought most productions to a standstill. The Hollywood Reporter detailed the extensive impact of thes strikes on the industry, including the postponement of The Last of Us Season 3.

However, with the resolution of both strikes, the creative team is now fully engaged in refining the scripts and preparing for filming. Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, the showrunners who successfully adapted the first season, are once again at the helm, ensuring a faithful yet compelling adaptation of the source material. Druckmann, who also wrote and directed the original The Last of Us video game, plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of the story and its emotional core.

Recent reports indicate that pre-production is well underway, with location scouting and set design progressing rapidly. While a firm start date for filming remains unconfirmed, industry insiders suggest that production is likely to commence in early 2026, with a potential release window in late 2026 or early 2027.

Kaitlyn Dever’s Insights: A Glimpse Behind the Scenes

Kaitlyn Dever, known for her roles in Unbelievable and Booksmart, is joining the cast of The Last of Us in a important role. While details about her character remain tightly guarded, Dever has offered some tantalizing hints about the production process. Speaking at a recent industry event, Dever emphasized the meticulous attention to detail and the collaborative spirit on set. She highlighted the dedication of the entire team to honoring the source material while also creating a unique and immersive television experience.

“It’s been astonishing to step into this world,” Dever shared, as reported by Deadline. “Everyone involved is so passionate about The Last of Us, and there’s a real commitment to making Season 3 something truly special. The physicality of the role is demanding, but it’s also incredibly rewarding.”

Dever’s comments suggest that Season 3 will continue to push the boundaries of the series’ action sequences and emotional depth. The show is renowned for its realistic portrayal of survival in a post-apocalyptic world, and Dever’s readiness indicates that this commitment to authenticity will remain a cornerstone of the series.

What to Expect in Season 3: Adapting the ‘Left Behind’ DLC

Season 3 of The Last of Us is expected to primarily adapt the “Left Behind” downloadable content (DLC) from the original game. This DLC offers a poignant and character-driven narrative that delves into the backstory of Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and her relationship with her friend Riley.

“Left Behind” is a fan-favorite for its emotional resonance and its exploration of themes such as love, loss, and the search for connection in a desolate world. The DLC takes place before the events of the main game, providing a deeper understanding of Ellie’s personality and motivations.

Adapting “Left Behind” presents both opportunities and challenges for the showrunners. The DLC is a relatively self-contained story, which allows for a focused and intimate narrative. However, it also requires careful handling to maintain the overall momentum of the series and to seamlessly integrate the backstory into the larger narrative arc.

Beyond “Left Behind,” it’s anticipated that Season 3 will also begin to incorporate elements from The Last of Us Part II, the second installment in the video game series. Part II is a more complex and controversial story, and the showrunners are likely to take a measured approach to adapting its darker themes and challenging plot points. Sundance 2026 Early Reviews: Top Films and Scores

Sundance Film Festival 2024: Early Standouts tackle Trauma,Comedy, and the Unexpected Beauty of Concrete

The Sundance Film Festival,a premier showcase for self-reliant film,is already generating significant buzz wiht its early premieres. As the festival continues thru February 1st, several films are emerging as critical darlings, sparking conversations about challenging subject matter, innovative documentary filmmaking, and the complexities of human relationships. This year’s lineup appears poised to deliver a diverse range of cinematic experiences, from emotionally raw dramas to surprisingly engaging explorations of the mundane.

“Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain” and “In the Summers” Lead Critical Acclaim

Early reviews highlight two films as particularly impactful.“Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain,” a comedy starring Ben Marshall,John Higgins, and Martin Herlihy, has garnered attention for its absurdist humor and inventive storytelling. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/film/film-news/please-dont-destroy-treasure-foggy-mountain-sundance-review-1235783444/ The film, a feature-length extension of the popular “Please Don’t destroy” sketches from Saturday Night Live, follows the trio on a quest for hidden treasure. Critics praise its willingness to embrace silliness and its surprisingly heartfelt core.

However, it’s “In the Summers” that is currently dominating conversations. Starring Ally Ioannides, the film centers on a young woman, Reeves, who witnesses a horrific act of violence – a rape – in a public park. The narrative doesn’t focus on the crime itself, but rather on the aftermath and the complex ways Reeves attempts to process the trauma. What sets this film apart is its nuanced portrayal of how those around her, including her well-intentioned parents (played by Channing Tatum and Gemma Chan), struggle to understand and support her, ofen inadvertently contributing to her isolation.

Navigating the Complexities of trauma Representation in Film

“In the Summers” is particularly noteworthy for its sensitive handling of a deeply sensitive topic. Films dealing with sexual assault frequently enough face scrutiny regarding their portrayal of violence and its impact on survivors.https://www.theguardian.com/film/2024/jan/20/in-the-summers-sundance-review-channing-tatum-ally-ioannides Early reports suggest the film avoids graphic depictions of the assault, instead focusing on the psychological and emotional fallout. This approach aligns with growing discussions within the film industry about responsible storytelling and the importance of centering the survivor’s experience.

The film’s strength lies in its depiction of the subtle ways trauma can manifest – the difficulty in articulating feelings, the sense of detachment, and the challenges of navigating everyday life when fundamentally altered by a traumatic event. The portrayal of the parents, while well-meaning, highlights the frequently enough-arduous reality that even those closest to a survivor may struggle to provide adequate support, sometimes due to their own discomfort or lack of understanding. This nuanced approach promises a powerful and thought-provoking cinematic experience.

“The History of Concrete” – Finding the Unusual in the Ordinary

Beyond dramatic narratives, Sundance is also showcasing innovative documentary filmmaking. John wilson’s “The History of Concrete” is receiving rave reviews for its unexpected charm and emotional resonance. Wilson, known for his HBO series “How To with John Wilson,” has a unique ability to find profundity in the seemingly mundane. https://www.indiewire.com/2024/01/the-history-of-concrete-john-wilson-sundance-review-1234936919/

The documentary, scoring an remarkable 82/100, takes on the challenge of making concrete – a material often overlooked and considered purely functional – a compelling subject for a feature film. Critics praise Wilson’s ability to weave together ancient context, philosophical musings, and personal anecdotes, transforming a seemingly dull topic into a surprisingly funny and emotionally engaging exploration of human ingenuity and the built surroundings.

The Rise of Observational Documentary and the Appeal of the Mundane

Wilson’s work is part of a broader trend in documentary filmmaking towards observational styles and a focus on everyday life. This approach, pioneered by filmmakers like Frederick Wiseman and often associated with the cinema verité movement, emphasizes capturing reality without heavy narration or intervention.

The appeal of documentaries like “The History of Concrete” lies in their ability to challenge our perceptions and reveal the hidden beauty and complexity within the ordinary. By focusing on a seemingly insignificant subject, Wilson encourages viewers to reconsider their relationship with
