Chris Hemsworth Teases Unique Future for Thor After ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ | Marvel

February 19, 2026 Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor Entertainment

Chris Hemsworth has indicated a potential continuation of his role as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) beyond the forthcoming “Avengers: Doomsday,” signaling a shift from his previously expressed uncertainty about the character’s future.

Six months ago, Hemsworth appeared less definitive about his involvement with Thor, telling the BBC in August that the path forward was unclear. “I don’t know. We’ll see where [Avengers: Doomsday] goes,” he said at the time, adding that the team was “sort of unpacking all of that as we speak and figuring out where each of these characters goes.”

Now, although promoting his new film “Crime 101,” Hemsworth revealed conversations with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige have sparked optimism. Speaking on the SmartLess podcast, as reported by The Playlist, Hemsworth suggested he could reprise the role “a couple more times.” According to Hemsworth, Feige believes audiences now anticipate “dramatic turns” for the character, opening the door for future storylines. “We’ve got some ideas to do something pretty unique again and hopefully be [different],” Hemsworth stated.

The actor also reflected on the tonal challenges of portraying Thor, particularly following the mixed reception to “Thor: Love and Thunder.” He described the film as leaning into a comedic style that, in retrospect, may have gone too far. “It was kind of like a Monty Python sketch, and we took the piss probably a little much,” Hemsworth explained. He acknowledged the resulting backlash, with some viewers questioning the character’s portrayal. “There was this real kind of, ‘Why is he a goofball and why is it like this?’ And, [audiences] violently offended and we were like, ‘Oh, we’re just having fun or trying to try something different.’”

Hemsworth noted that “Ragnarok” successfully navigated a tonal shift, but “Love and Thunder” demonstrated the need for careful balance. He emphasized the importance of avoiding extremes in future installments.

While a fifth standalone “Thor” film has not been officially announced, Hemsworth’s comments suggest Marvel is open to exploring further adventures with the character. “Avengers: Doomsday” is currently scheduled for release on December 18th, 2026.
