Bucks Guard Kevin Porter Jr. to Undergo Surgery After Meniscus Injury
MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee Bucks guard Kevin Porter Jr. will undergo surgery to repair a meniscus injury in his right knee, the team announced Friday, sidelining the starting point guard for approximately four weeks. The injury occurred during a workout on Oct.30, just over a week after Porter Jr. initially injured his left ankle.
Porter Jr., who re-signed with the Bucks this offseason on a 2-year, $10.5 million deal, had been thrust into a key role as the team’s starting point guard. His absence adds another challenge to a Bucks team seeking to integrate new head coach Doc Rivers and build chemistry around Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard. The injury impacts the team’s early-season depth and forces adjustments to their offensive and defensive strategies.
The team categorized the procedure as a “minor orthopedic procedure.” Porter Jr. initially sustained an ankle injury on Oct. 22 during a game against the Washington Wizards after stepping on teammate Bobby Portis jr.’s foot. He scored 10 points and dished out two assists in nine minutes before exiting that contest.
Bucks coach Doc Rivers noted Porter Jr. had recently returned to practice before the team’s Oct.30 win over the Golden State Warriors, and was present on the bench during that game.
