Jakarta – Pertamina is continuing its partnership with Russian energyโข company โRosneft on the development of the Tuban Refinery, despite U.S.sanctions โขagainst the Russianโค firm, according to statementsโข made โฃby โคcompany โขand government officials this week. The project is currently in the Final Investment Decision โ(FID) phase, with aโ target completion date โfor that process โin โคearly December 2025.
The collaboration underscores โขIndonesia’s strategic approach to energy security and โคdiversification, navigating geopolitical complexities to advance critical infrastructure projects. Pertamina’sโค continued engagement with Rosneft signals a โcommitment to โคthe Tuban Refinery as a key component of โขIndonesia’s long-term energy goals, despite externalโ pressures.
“So far it’s still with the โold partner,” stated Simon Aloysius Mantiri, President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), when โquestioned โbyโข journalists from theโค Ministry of โขEnergy and Mineral Resources on November 10,โฃ 2025.Mantiri explainedโข that the FIDโข will determine the project’s feasibility and potential futureโฃ plans. “We are โขcurrently in the FID process at the Tuban refinery, Final Investment decision.โ after that weโข will assess โคwhether it is feasible for us to continue or whether there โฃareโ other โฃplans,” he said.
Theโ company anticipates updating the public on the โFIDโฃ results โshortly after its completion. “We might see the FID in earlyโข December.We will update again,” โฃMantiriโค added.
Minister of Energy and โคMineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia downplayed concerns regardingโ the impact of U.S. sanctions โฃon the refinery’s construction, stating on October 24, 2025, after the 80th Mining and Energy Day โCommemoration Ceremony at Monas,โ Central Jakarta, “Don’t worry, there are manyโ roads to heaven. Don’tโ worry too much. We’veโ got it figured out.”โข
