No Charges Filed in Deadly Dog Maulingโฃ Due to Lack of evidence, Fulton Police Say
Donna โขNguyen died on August โ14 following a severe dog mauling that occurred on August 1, according to a Fulton County Policeโ Department incident report. The report indicatesโฃ Nguyen’sโค death was caused by sepsis resulting from “meaningful wounds she received during the animal attack.”
Fulton County Police Chief โขWade Yates stated investigators believe Nguyenโ was attacked by a group of dogs. However, “an exhaustive search of evidence did not yield a whole lot,” Yates said. The autopsy revealed no DNA evidence, and the animals involved have not โbeen identified.
While the dogs remain unidentified, Fulton County Animal Services previously seized five dogs owned by David Scott Evans at a home near โthe attack location, as shown in videos from Nguyen’s family and Evans himself.
Four of โฃthe seized dogs were euthanized, and a fifth remains in custody at the animal shelter. However, the incident report notes Evans’ dogs are not currently believed to be involved inโค the attack “due to no blood found on them and their friendly demeanor on scene.”
“I can’t get them back,thay didn’t do nothing wrong. I told them that from the start. Every timeโฃ I think about just kind of makes me mad,” said David Evans, regarding the euthanized dogs. Officials have not detailed theโ reasons for the euthanizations.
The aftermath of the โattack hasโฃ resulted in personnel changes.Fulton County Board of Commissioners Chairman Robb Pitts announced that two Lifeline employees have been fired. โคAdditionally, the Union City Police Department officer initially dispatchedโ to the scene was also terminated.
the incident report details thatโ a 911 call reporting “a woman screaming and lots of โขdogs barking” was received at 10:50 a.m.โ on August 1. The officer was dispatched but “never actually responds and clears the โcall at 11:01 a.m.” A second 911 call was made minutes later,โข and the officer arrived at 11:22 a.m. A USPS employee discovered Nguyen bleeding heavily and also contacted 911 at 11:12 a.m., ten minutes before police arrived.
Pitts confirmed a Union City employee was fired but did not specify if it was the responding officer.
charles Ingram, son of Donna Nguyen, expressed frustration with the examination. “It’s been a completeโ nightmare. It’s hard to understand this case,” he said. “It’s just, it’s absolutely crazy. There’s a lot of mistakes made in this case that we want answers for.”
