Asia cupโฃ 2025: Pakistan Cancels Pressโข Conference, Andy Pycroft to Officiate โIndia Match – Echoes โฃof Previousโ Dispute?
Colombo – ahead of their highly โanticipated Asiaโ Cup 2025 clash with India, โthe Pakistanโข cricket teamโ has canceled a scheduled โฃpress conference. Sources indicate a motivationalโฃ speaker has been brought in to โaddress the team. This follows a patternโค of heightened tension surrounding matches against India, โrecalling a recent controversy involving match โขreferee Andy Pycroft.
Pycroft will again serve as matchโค referee for โคthe India-Pakistanโ contest, having previously officiated their last encounter,โข and also the Pakistan-UAE match. His extensive experience includes 103 Test matches, 248 ODIs, and 185 T20โ Internationals as a matchโ referee.
The appointment of Pycroft is notably sensitive โฃgivenโค prior objections from โคthe Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Before their match againstโ the UAE, the PCB demanded Pycroft’s removal from the Asia Cup. This demand was rejected by the โคInternational cricket Council (ICC).
The PCB had accused Pycroft โofโ bias following an incident where Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav and Pakistani player Aga Salman reportedlyโ declined a customary handshake after the india-Pakistan match. The Pakistani team afterwardโ boycotted the award ceremony inโ protest.
This โled to a threat of withdrawal from theโ tournament, delaying the start of the Pakistan-UAE match by one hour. The situationโค was resolvedโ after discussions between the ICC,PCB,and Asian Cricket council (ACC),with Pakistan ultimately โplaying and โwinning the match to โฃqualifyโค for the Super-4 stage. The upcoming India-Pakistan match will be held at the same venue whereโ the initial dispute occurred.
India enters the match with a perfect record in the โgroup stage, defeating Oman, UAE, and Pakistan.Pakistan, โled by Salman Aga, secured wins against UAE andโข oman but lost to India byโ 7โ wickets.
The ICC has emphasizedโค the importance of the match referee’s โฃrole and signaled its determination to ensure the game is not disrupted by external factors, as tensions between the two nations remain โhigh.
