Amel Bent Reveals ‘Most Painful’ Year Amidst Grandmother’s Death adn Personal Reflection
PARIS – Singer Amel Bent, 39, has publicly shared a year marked by both profound loss and personal triumph. in a recent interview, Bent described 2024 as “crazy, because I have both experienced the most painful year of my life and at the same time the most beautiful year of my life,” revealing the emotional toll of her grandmother‘s passing in november 2023.
Bent was performing on tour supporting her previous album when she received news of her grandmother’s declining health. She promptly left the stage to be with her family and accompany her grandmother “to his end of life.” The death triggered “a real shock wave,” leading Bent to isolate herself and question her life’s direction. “When she leaves, it’s the explosion. I lock myself in my house and spend whole nights thinking, thinking, realizing that I may be missing the point,” she confessed.
The loss prompted Bent to re-evaluate her fast-paced life and prioritize self-reflection. “it’s challenging when life moves on…to say stop. She forced us to take a break looking at us,” Bent explained, offering a rare glimpse into her personal struggles. She also questioned whether she was “doing things right” and if she was “up to it.”
Following the funerals held in Algeria, Bent sought to reconnect with her roots, describing her grandmother as “my home.” She initiated the process of obtaining Algerian nationality, stating,”This woman has always been my home. I had to be able to have a duplicate key.” She added, “It calmed me down a lot.”
Despite the pain,Bent expressed a sense of renewal, describing herself as “a standing woman who is reborn from pain, more rooted than ever, and ready to sing about life, even with tears in her eyes.” Bent is married to Patrick Antonelli and is a mother of three children.
