Prague’s Old Town Market reopens as Digital Art Gallery, Signal Space
Prague, Czech Republic – Prague’s historic Old Town Market is set to reopen as a digital art gallery, Signal Space, beginning October 1, 2025. The gallery, a temporary project wiht a three-year lease agreement between the city and festival organizers, aims to revitalize the building and prepare the area for future reconstruction.
Signal Space will feature contemporary Czech digital art, with Petr Pufler aka Strátlonoš as its first exhibitor. The gallery also includes the interactive “Signal Playground” for children, alongside a café for parents.
The Old Town Market, built between 1903 and 1905,has been largely stagnant for years. Signal Space intends to inspire visitors and showcase the market’s preserved cast iron construction, designed in the shape of a five-liter basilica, described as “the soul of the whole place.”
“The gallery is not just to watch. We want it to inspire, draw, move emotions and thinking,” said Martin Pošta, founder of Signal Festival and Signal Space curator.
The city is planning a competition to find a long-term tenant for the building following the conclusion of Signal Space’s lease. ”The reconstruction of the interior…is temporary and returnable. We are preparing a competition dialog through which we want to find a long-term tenant, who will then participate in the overall repair of the building,” added Zábranský.
Individuals sensitive to light and heightened perceptions are advised to consider this when visiting, notably areas with immersive effects.
